Wootton or Churchill or RM

All good schools. Wootton is the best, followed by Churchill, then RM.

Absolutely nailed it here.

You chose a school which matches your priority.

God forbid that you tell the truth and quit dancing around the truth with your politically correct code.

Wootton is best at what? Being high pressure cooker?

It isn't a pressure cooker any more than other top schools in the county. You are uninformed.

Why would they call this one tenant out over the others, and "strive" to achieve this? Yes, "whenever possible".. which, as I stated, means not sending kids from one side of the county to another but, as indicated on the BOE docs, looking at *neighboring* clusters to achieve balance, both in overcrowding and diversity. Churchill is a neighboring cluster to RM.

Of course BOE isn't going to state publicly that they want to focus on "diversity" more. People from wealthier clusters would be up in arms, just like BOE wouldn't say publicly that changing the magnet criteria wasn't about "diversity" (even though that's what Metis report focused on) it was about "peer cohort".

Whatever findings come out of the boundary report, you can be sure there will be focus on "diversity" just as the Metis report did, and just as the Metis report precipitated changes to the magnet acceptance, this boundary report will produce some changes to the wealthier clusters.

This is classic conspiracy-theory stuff.

Conspiracy theorist: [Conspiracy theory]
Somebody else: [A fact that counters the conspiracy theory]
Conspiracy theorist: See, that just proves that the conspiracy theory is true!

Didn't they vote to prioritize diversity over the other criteria just a few months back? Like the PP said the diversity train/bus is a commin'. Accept it or get run over.

There's no diversity bus coming so stop with the ignorant statements. Yes, diversity must be considered when redrawing boundaries among other criteria. My question is, why is striving for a diverse school a bad thing?

DP.. I don't think it's a bad, but clearly BOE has called this one tenant over the others, which is why I stated that Churchill could have its boundary redrawn with the neighboring overcrowded and more diverse cluster - RM. But you or someone claimed I was throwing out conspiracy theories even though BOE has stated clearly called this out.

I posted the BOE resolution up thread.

Then what makes Wootton the "best"? You still haven't answered that question.

Wootton is best at pressure cooker. By far the best. Many kids crying in halls because of an A-. Kids that get a B+ are practically catatonic.

I'm a graduate of Wootton from the 80's. Back then Whitman was the pressure cooker; Churchill was a wealthy kid druggie school; and RM only had 40% of their kids graduating and going to college. Now I will say that I would choose RM or Churchill over Wootton (I'm still in the area and not zoned for any of those schools at this time).

The whole boundary issue is up in the air so I would not make a major purchase like buying a home based on the current high school boundaries. I can definitely see why all three of the high schools may have their boundaries redrawn for diversity reasons. Theoretically, they are all public high schools so your child should have an equal opportunity for an education at Churchill, Wooton, or Richard Montgomery.

With that being said, I have children at Churchill. The math and science departments have curriculum issues. Teachers in those departments are burned out and don't care if students succeed. Private tutoring is needed to keep kids afloat and progressing. Just search other Churchill threads on this forum (especially the principal thread) and you will see similar comments.

Other issues at Churchill but might be also present at any other high school in MCPS are bullying as well as drug and alcohol use. The school administration tries to downplay these issues and has done little to address these problems that greatly affect the social and emotional wellbeing of students.

Churchill and a tie between RM and Wootton .

IMO.. wealthy schools have too many issues tied to wealth; schools with too many low income students have too many issues tied to poverty.

I'd pick something in the middle that has something for every group, and that means diversity. When you have a somewhat homogeneous student body, it's harder for kids who don't fit in to find their little group.

In terms of outcomes, they're all about equal. One may have an extra section of AP English than another which might make scheduling easier.

Probably.. but the experiences can differ.
