David Hogg just got into Harvard

Are you serious?

That makes it, what, no big deal? Do you have kids of your own? God, I hope you wouldn't minimize it if this happened to them.

I'm a pediatrician outside the DC area. I see teenagers in my practice who were at a school where there was a shooting last year. Some are still having nightmares. Some have transferred schools. There is other fallout. Some seem to be doing okay. One was okay until she wasn't -- when that time of year rolled around again, and she could smell the same seasonal scents again, she started crying for no reason. These are just kids.

And there are kids who deal with gang deaths and parent overdoses. (I've been on both ends of the spectrum during my career - inner city to rural America.). your point being?

Regarding Hogg, he doesn't appear to be suffering from PTSD. He's apparently cool enough for the camera and is eager to fight back when provoked. In fact, quite the opposite is true. He appears to love the limelight.

True activists needs ego in order to give them the courage to fight for a cause, but there's healthy ego and arrogance. This kid doesn't have the compassion that successful activists have. He'll be gone in the blink of an eye.

Wow, spoken like someone who has never been an activist.

The syntax of his tweets and his vernacular suggest a teen who doesn’t read, at all, and he has the writing ability of a bright 7th grader. I’m not being hyperbolic. It says a lot that someone so average would even have the gall to apply to Harvard. A true opportunist squeezing every last drop from a local tragedy. And obviously it’s a joke he was admitted.

And it's pretty much impossible to fail out of Harvard, so in five years this truly average IQ young man will be running around with a member of the "elite" credential, act like he's the smartest in the room, and expect everyone to bow in his presence. Gag.

I think we can all agree that the SAT isn't a real measure of anything and certainly not a projection of future success in life.

SAT is an IQ test. The only people who are in denial about that fact are those who bombed it. What, you think inflated bullshit A’s for showing up to class measure something? 50% of all high school seniors have an A average GPA. Grades are meaningless without a high SAT score verifying your capacity.

Average IQ kids getting let into elite colleges is why top firms are asking SAT scores during job recruiting. How did Jeff Bezos meet his wife? He was interviewing her. What attracted him to her? He knew she had a near perfect SAT score. High IQ.

Serious question: Do you think Trump, Bush Jr., and Kushner should've been admitted to their Ivy League schools? I'd say Hogg has better writing and oratory skills than all three and he hasn't even been to college yet.

I don't recall anyone asking for SAT scores when interviewing with investment banks and management consulting firms.

No, none of them are/were qualified, including the young man Hogg. Family wealth and/or partisan juice and/or skin colour should not be factors in admission to the finest universities in the world.

SAT is most assuredly not an IQ test. Try again.

I think it is sweet that so many posters are impressed with Harvard.

A Harvard education is impressive and always will be, PP. Stop pretending it isn’t.

Yes and if it wasn't, why would people be making a big deal about Hogg supposedly taking a space from someone else?

Trump supporters reserve the right to contradict themselves within the space of three posts.

It's curious that you - and others - have brought up Trump repeatedly in this thread. Exactly what does Trump have to do with any of this? Plenty of us did not vote for him and yet can still feel that Hogg's acceptance to Harvard is nothing more than a stunt, much like the #BlackLivesMatter "essay" applicant was for Stanford. It's cringeworthy.

Nope. I’ve met too many Harvard Alum to believe that nonsense.

To a person - literally EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. - the most significant thing they ever accomplished in life was getting into Harvard as an undergrad. That’s it. They peaked at 17.

He lived through a violent shooting with classmates literally dying around him. In his school, where he was supposed to be safe. He spoke out against other kids having to go through that and advocated for policy changes that he thought would prevent it.

He didn't, like, pee on the county courthouse because they wouldn't let him smoke weed in the public park. Jesus.

Actually he was no where near the shooting when it happened.

He was huddled in a closet with other kids. He absolutely was near the shooting. Give it a rest with your BS will you?

No, he wasn’t.

You can’t even spell “alumni”, PP.
