TMZ reporting Parkland leader David Hogg just got into Harvard

They should let Hogg partner with a top student to help with his writing skills and he can teach that student how to have an original.thought.

Harvard has been operating since 1636, so all these doomsaysers make me laugh.

You are correct in fact, and your response -- laughter -- is also the right one. I will try and emulate it instead of getting angry at the twolls.

These days, the problem is with trying to figure out whether trolls are just jealous or irreverent, or if they're trying to tear down our institutions to achieve creepy ends.

If they just hate Harvard, or the University of Chicago: OK.

If they see tearing down Harvard, or the liberal arts in general, as part of the process of weakening institutions that can stand up to the Republicans, the Democrats, Putin, etc.: That's a problem. That's not funny at all.

I know that, if the "you're delusional" person sees this post, that person will respond, "You're delusional." But, if there are actual systematic attacks on our institutions, then I think we have to start noticing them and addressing them now, when it's hard to tell whether they're part of an organized campaign. If we wait until the existence of attack campaigns are obvious to try to resist, effective resistance may no longer be possible.

No. This thread is a parody. Clueless and simultaneously envious parents who are obsessed with grades and rank instead of quality of the students they are raising. Good for Hogg and good for Harvard.

Parents cluelessly push their kids to be robotic students. AP scholar! National Merit! If you over study to achieve those things, leaving no time for other endeavors, it wasn’t worth doing.

So you recommend Tiger Moms should train their average IQ kids to exploit local tragedies instead?

No. They should train their kids to care about something, to have enough passion about something to make something extraordinary of it. That is what these schools are looking for.

Who "deserves it" more? A perfect score kid? There are thousands of those. He has done something truly unique.

With guns.

The horrible killer did something more unique.

Had he survived, should Harvard have admitted him?

I didn’t follow this story closely when it occurred but just read a few pieces about him. He sounds like a great young man. He is apparently dyslexic and didn’t learn to read until age 9. I’m not sure if that’s widely known or not. He must be very intelligent to compensate for the LD.

most Americans support gun control. It's not an original position.

Ha ha! Half the class are full of athletes, rich kids who coasted in prep schools and daddy or granpy money is why they got in, harvard easy grading.....the smart kids are at MIT where u can’t buy your way in.

Harvard is the lucky school that got David Hogg, not the other way around.
