Oh sweetie, bless your heart. You're so cute. #ignoranceisbliss |
Apparently VA is for gun lovers since the NRA chose to have its HQ there, and VA allows gun stores to open up next to schools. You can keep both Amazon, the NRA, and the "don't tread on me" gun nuts. |
Sweetie here you go sugar. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/local/homicides/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.7cc8d3aaf205 See all those little dots in MD hon, those are homicides. See how there are a galaxy of them in MD? |
That is true, but what's it really mean? Sure we have a lot of millionaires in Bethesda, Potomac & Chevy Chase - but how many opportunities is that creating for the 95% who aren't? I think we have a fairly robust small business community, but where VA is killing us is in big corporate investment. Ultimately that is going to have a far bigger economic impact than our "millionaire community." And those corporate taxes are what allow jurisdictions to spend money without drastically increasing our income and property tax rates. And your criticism of Amazon's "half deal" ignores the fact that VA offered far less in incentives and still won the bid. But who cares, right? We got millionaires! |
You can keep the traffic jams and crowds that will come from this. We'll keep some trees and cleaner air. |
What? Bethesda and Rockville are horribly congested with nary a tree in sight. |
231 homicides in 2018 on the MD side of the Potomac vs 32 on the VA side? It’s no wonder that Amazon decided on the less crime-ridden area. VA is blessed. Get your house in order, MD, and maybe the next business won’t cut you out of the action. |
That's not all of Maryland, now is it? |
The main drag in Crystal City honors a Confederate leader. Get your house in order, bitch. |
Wow we have done a lot of raking in Rockville for a community with no trees. |
This. The new wealth being created is significantly more than MD. In 10 years the level of wealth and development in Arlington/Alexandria will increase significantly as more Amazon, Nestle, start-ups servicing tech companies move in. 10 years is a very short period of time for planning purposes and we literally have zero plans (lets get more anti-development politicians in office) other than living off our glory days. The change is so pronounced that "In 1983, the region’s economic activity, which reflects job growth, was split equally among Northern Virginia, Washington and the Maryland suburbs, he said. By last year, Northern Virginia’s share had grown to 48 percent, while the Maryland suburbs held about steady with 31 percent, and Washington had dropped to 21 percent." (from Washington Post). If this does not make the fact obvious that Maryland is being consistently being beaten by NOVA on the economic front, not sure what is. |

Who in their right mind would want to drive over that bridge every day if they didn’t have to?? |
Honestly - these fools in Maryland think it’s ‘no big deal’ and ‘at least we were in the top 20!’. Newsflash - everyone does NOT get a trophy.
Hans Riemer thinks it’s hecause we don’t have enough rapid buses. No one wants to ride on a damned rapid bus. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/local/marylands-amazon-loss-prompts-questions-about-its-competitiveness/2018/12/03/c568085c-e930-11e8-bbdb-72fdbf9d4fed_story.html But hey - we get a new zillion dollar day laborer job center. Much fanfare and happiness from CASA Montgomery - an organization which is highly interested in getting low wage jobs for Latin American immigrants but this does not grow our economy here. We are in deep trouble here in MoCo. https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/news/county-officials-dedicate-new-immigrant-worker-center-in-wheaton/ |
+1 ha I was thinking the same thing. Lots of places in NoVa is like a concrete jungle, especially Tysons area. And I'm originally from LA. |
