Elon and JMU - Deferred

Huh. Is this student a VA resident? I wouldn't have necessarily seen this coming.

DD says JMU’s incoming SAT has gone up 90 points between 2016 and 2018 ....

JMU defers a lot in the EA round and then ultimately accepts them in the regular round. It’s still where the bottom half from our HS go.

Not our experience... McLean HS FfaxCo VA...son is headed there with plenty of well-sorted classmates...

Another "average student" here. DD has a 3.4 GPA and 1290 SAT. She has been accepted to 12 schools, deferred at 2 and 1 rejection. All solid schools, nice to have options.

Congrats, PP’s!!! Would you mind sharing the school names?

I'm sure most on here will look down on these schools but here you go: Butler, College of Charleston, Indiana, Miami OH, St. Joe's, Towson (in-state), Delaware, Pitt, South Carolina. Deferred at Elon and JMU. Denied by Tulane.
Still waiting on Clemson, UMD, UConn, Miami and VT.

Congrats to your DD! Of these, Pitt is a great option.

Miami is a great environment if you don’t want big city

I have some reservations about James Madison's partying and drinking culture.

Believe me, that’s not unique to JMU I’m sure....

Anonymous wrote:My DD has been accepted into 8 schools, has 2 deferrals and no rejections. Just an FYI- we are very pleasantly surprised. She has a 3.5, 27 ACT and her main activities are volunteering and sports (but nothing too notable). We were super worried about her getting into a school with her gpa, but she has been accepted into many well regarded large state schools and a few mid-sized privates. No ivy, UVA, etc. but good schools. I'm just sharing this for all those who worry as we did. On this board it seems like it's over 4.0 or your kid should go to vocational school.

Why did you apply to 17 schools?!? It seems like overkill.

Her DD set herself up very well. Lots of choices, congrats PP!

I agree with the last poster. This kid did very well. Some great choices including Miami of Ohio and uPitt

People, please be kind. Even on an anonymous board. If people post where their kids got into school, there is NEVER a reason to be mean and put down those schools. Not every kid is the same. Not every kid is going to a top 20 or top 50 school. There is no need for that type of meanness-- these are our kids. Spread kindness-- even on DCUM. Come on adults! You can do better.

To quote my son, "Any school is a party school if you try hard enough."

My experience is those that are not happy for others are not happy themselves.

Accepted: Purdue, Case Western, Northeastern, WPI, U of Arizona

Deferred: Ohio State

Rejected: University of Maryland

Still waiting: RPI, Harvey Mudd and U of Washington

Such a strange process. Ohio was a safety and getting rejected from state school was a little shocking. But the acceptances were exciting. It really does seem like a crapshoot.
