How would you place top schools on a scale of most liberal to most conservative?

Private schools are inherently elitist and classist. You really are only asking about the range of most conservative to most hypocritical.

Yes it is. We moved our dc from a liberal left leaning school because we could t take it anymore. Just teach my dc math and science and keep your political crap to yourselves. [/quote]
It is not about politics. It is about values.

Agree it is about values. Studies show teens are most influenced by their peers. So regardless of what you teach at home, if your child is surrounded by anti-feminist kids or anti-gay kids that can be a problem for some families that don't share those values. The schools don't promote these things but they do have a role in what kinds of kids and families they are admitting to their school.

Lighten up and get a reality check. The schools cannot control every kid or family. We are at a very "liberal" school on this list and I was stunned by language used this year by kids. The school tries to deal with it as best as possible but none of these places are utopian values havens. Your kid should be exposed any way to difficult challenges in preparation for life.

GDS

Sidwell

Maret

Potomac

NCS

STA

Holton

Landon

Georgetown Prep

I think Maret is more liberal than Sidwell. The rest, pretty neat.

Potomac is more liberal than Holton?

NCS and Holton are both quite liberal (Holton students polled 90% for Clinton in 2016). I would move them both up above STA and Potomac.

Kind of like the values of the current president, for instance? What hypocrisy!

I'm glad it is not everyone's. Fwiw, it does open the door to some very robust family conversation. What one person said about a group of vocal Trump-supporting boys does ring true to me...there is a group of alpha boys in my son's grade that is quite vocal, and I think the boys who don't hold those views tend to keep quiet rather than challenge them. It is not the Trump-supporting that I object to...it is the name-calling, lack of respect and intolerance.

What you may not realize is the micro aggressions against conservative kids/families. Even a poster describes teachers as tolerant and progressive. Why not just tolerant? The problem is that liberals tend to think any opinion different is racist or anti feminist and that is just not true. I see way more loons in the left promoting hate against conservatives. Tolerant should be plain tolerant.

Here, here. One can be tolerant OR progressive. One cannot be both.

True. One either tolerates grabbing women by the pussy, or one is progressive. One either tolerates not sending "foreign aid" to Puerto Rico, or one is progressive. One either tolerates punching news reporters, or one is progressive. It's really quite simple.

If we are talking about whole community then yes for sure Ncs is very liberal even though some parents are trying to make it more conservative.90% voted for Hillary Clinton in the school poll.

Are we talking the teachers, the community, or the governing board? You can have liberal/progressive teachers and a liberal/progressive community but if the school governing board is more conservative that can have more of an effect and impact on the tone of the school than the other two. I know of one school where that is the case.
