I thought it was ok, but I would rather the series dump Helen. I've always prefered the Alison and Cole angle.

I've been waiting for them to get back to Alison and Cole for the PAST THREE WEEKS since they didn't do a new years episode, and it's like they knew we were waiting for us and gave us this boring POS episode instead. Worst one of the season, IMO- I could barely sit through it.

I feel like they are really phoning it in this season. There will be one good episode and then a line of horrible ones where they just set up more of the plot, and it's blah blah blah boring filler until they get to whatever plot twist. Like they're just going through the motions

The latest episode was annoying to me. Helen is a mess. I think she needs a therapist. She really needs to move on. Noah doesn't love her and maybe never did. He's a complete asshole. I wish she would figure that out. She feels horrible guilt about him going to jail when she was driving, but she doesn't know that Allison threw Scotty into the road, causing the accident. So while Helen is torn apart by guilt, including having her kids harp on how Noah's a killer, he is just keeping quiet.

I think it's clear now that he is hallucinating re: Brendan Fraser.

I was very disturbed by the "sex" scene at the end of the last episode (if that's even what you would call it- more like a rape scene :shock

This furthers the idea I have had and other reviewers have had that The Affair seems to be becoming disturbingly misogynistic, from the bizarre straw-woman feminist storyline that seemed to have absolutely zero-relevance to the plot, to the "every woman cheats" story that they now have going, to this final violent scene.

I'm not sure whether to keep watching. And it's a shame, because Showtime usually produces reliably female-friendly shows, from Homeland to the L-Word, etc.

So the previews allude to Allison confessing to what happened with Scotty. I'm curious how that will be played out. Helen was looking at the road because she was singing to Noah, and she was drunk. But he was pushed out right as the car came along so they both were the cause. Not that Helen will see it that way. I wonder if they'll try to go down the path of Helen trying to get Noah's conviction over turned.

I liked the last episode. I love when they do the same story line from two perspectives. I thought the emotions were raw and intense and disturbing and that's what makes great drama. It was gritty and in your face. Also relevant with the opiod addiction issue. Helens daughter asked her "why do you hate yourself so much?" The two perspectives really showcased that issue. Best episode this season.
(The sex scene was tough. Yes. )

I'm out. And I say that sadly as someone who really enjoyed the first two seasons. I don't normally cut and run once I've invested time in a show, but I couldn't even finish the last episode.

I agree, it is deeply misogynistic. What about Helen's mother - the ultimate door mat who accepts back her cheating husband when he's dumped by his gf.

Its all horrible really. Each woman fits into a classic cliche : Shrews (Helen & Louisa), whores (Allison & French lady and her students), doormats (Esposito and Helen's mom).

And that wasn't the first rape we've seen. Season 1 - Noah's perspective of the sex Allison and Cole have outside their house against the car.

And Jennifer Esposito is so wasted in this show. She should be a lead character.

The cast is really good - they're doing a realistic enough job that I loathe every single character, and it's painful to watch the show. While I can see how much pain Helen is in, I can't empathize with her at all - she's just despicable. At this point they all seem to have raging personality disorders - it's gone beyond the imperfect, flawed characters we can still relate to and care about (from season 1). They are all just unsympathetic at this point.

I'm growing really tired of the hallucinations. I also find the Alison/Cole storyline much more compelling that Noah/Helen. Last night was a snooze fest.

I'm glad someone else feels this way. Be glad you didn't finish it, the end was pretty sickening. I might have to stop watching at this point

+1000 to all of this

It's a damn shame. The show seemed really promising at first and now it's just a caricature of different hateful ideas of women. It's like it was written by Tom Leykis. Absurd

This season is so much better when it's focused on Alison and Cole. I like Sunday's episode.
