Ok to ask friends to pay for cleaning when they use our beach house?

Could you barter use of the beach rental for say, friends plowing your driveway?

Win win

Let go of the guilt. Seriously. It's one thing that we women do to ourselves that makes things harder than they have to be. You are fortunate. Be grateful, but no need to be guilty.

Totally reasonable, OP. They are getting a great deal and anyone with integrity will be happy to do it!

Absolutely ask them to pay for the cleaning lady.

You're doing them a favor . Beach rentals like yours rent for $10k a week in the high season. The least they can do is have them pay for cleaning.

I would not ask people who are there with you though. If they were good friends they would at least gift a bunch of bottles of wine.

Not tacky. Your friends are tacky for not offering it in the first place.

Yet you would ask a friend for the use of their house and NOT offer to pick up any costs? THAT'S an embarrassment!

I can't believe that your friends didn't offer to pay for the cleaning. Your friends should be embarrassed.

I had a text from someone I haven't seen in years ask if their friend I have never met can stay at our beach house for free for an indefinite amount of time. Hilarious!

No, just no.

This is my sentiment, exactly. People are bold, and *not* in a good way - they can only do for themselves when it involves taking from others. Pathetic.

Absolutely.

But do you hire a cleaner every time someone stays there?

Different poster here. We have to hire a cleaner every time someone stays there, because the house miraculously does not clean itself; and no one will clean to the specs of the next renter - unless it is a proper cleaning company.

People have no effing common sense or consideration, really.

We don't rent it out. I clean it when I go or hire a cleaner.

You are comparing a cabin to a beach house? Not a fair comparison, beach houses (most of them) are a lot bigger.

Well, we call it a cabin. It is 4 bedrooms, 3000 sq feet. Hardwoods which is a PIA to clean with sand everywhere.

Your cabin is not 3k + square feet with outdoor shower and 2 balconies. It's just.not.the.same.thing.

Ah..it is 3k sq. feet and I just responded to someone about that before even seeing your post. We refer to it as a cabin because we previously had a small "cabin" on the lot but completely tore it down and rebuilt it. We are just in the habit of still calling it a cabin. It has one balcony off the master bedroom a deck, porch, large pantry, 4 bedrooms, sauna, 4 bathrooms, large kitchen, a great room, etc. it is not a small home by any means.

Fail.
No one with a 4 bedroom home and 3k sq feet calls it a cabin.
Come on now! Be better than that. Total fail
