In the end, everyone hated both of them for the constant negativity, interrogations, and discipline for things that never happened. One of them finally outgrew it and the other went to a different school. I guess my post is related to being oversensitive to victimization culture.

Oh, is that what it's called now?

It was individual kids and it was compounded by their parents. It could have been any school.

So what is it doing in a thread about a specific school?

There was a poster who kept making totally false, unfounded statements about DCI. Parents of DCI and feeder students explained that it's a great school full of dedicated kids. That poster than brought up some allegations of bullying, which were also refuted by actual parents. DCI Hater admitted she only heard these allegations second hand. She made a bunch of classist and racist statements to add to her lack of credibility. One parent pointed out an isolated incident where some students at a feeder alleged bullying. The end.

Troll Poster then got Jeff to remove a bunch of posts.

There are people who disagree that DCI is a "great school" for their children for a number of legitimate reasons. Criticisms have ranged from the ill-conceived technology policy, lack of academic rigor, and the high rate of poverty (google the research that discusses the impact of poverty in schools).

It's unfortunate that Jeff seems to be helping you (or another DCI booster) quash the discussion on these legitimate issues. The same thing seems to be going on with Yu Ying threads.

Didn't realize posts were getting deleted. Two posts of mine on the DCI tech site got deleted. First time I thought it was a mistake but then it got deleted again. Third time was a charm after I explained in detail why the link I included was relevant. Now I realize that there is DCI parent or administrator who will complain whenever something they don't like gets posted. Hardly a ringing endorsement for the school!

The "legitimate" issue that caused me to remove posts were a second-hand allegation of bullying. When, at best, there is one single, unconfirmed case of bullying, it is hardly fair to criticize a school because of bullying.

I really don't understand the need of some posters to continually attack certain schools. It really takes away the usefulness of this forum when any mention of certain schools immediately turns into a double-digit page length thread mostly made up of posters who have nothing to do with the school bashing it.

As you said, there are people who disagree that DCI is a "great school". Point made. There is no reason to continue flogging that particular horse.

And multiple people are reporting such crappy behavior. Thank you, Jeff, for making this board a better place.

Great. Let's go back to the hooligans and first time criminals outside the Tenleytown metro when Wilson gets out.

There are people who hold strong opinions, both positive and negative, about many other schools--and they frequently express them on DCUM. Why are you so protective of DCI and Yu Ying Jeff? Are parents at those schools so fragile and insecure that they need your protection? I don't see you deleting the "double-digit" page negative posts about Hardy, BASIS, etc. It's beginning to look a lot like censorship.

You must mean a better place for DCI/YY boosters.

Anonymous wrote:I am not a racist, a classist (is that even a word?) or a troll. It is fact that DCI is 52% FARMS and it is a fact that having a high FARMS rate will change the culture of the school. In my post I pointed out the plus of having a diverse population but the negative of having to provide additional support (academic and/or social) often needed in higher proverty schools. You may not have had much experience in working with kids from low income backgrounds or had kids who attended at Title 1 school, but I have.

The FARMS rate at DCI is likely to fall dramatically as feeder school kids matriculate. YY is only something like 20 percent FARMS and much of that is in the leading edge classes. I think LAMB, Stokes and MV have similar demographics.

Similar demographics in that the older grades tend to be FARMSier than younger, I mean.

From DCPCSB - Economically disadvantaged

Stokes 71%
DC Bilingual 82%
LAMB 26.9%
YY 12.7%
MV 35%

You do understand that this information is based on what a parents puts on the lunch form. People lie to reduce aftercare cost / lunch fees. Only school that receive DC voucher program varies that what is submitted on the form is acutally true.
