You'd have to ask 16:23's daughter to get what's on the rumor mill. |
No stripper pole? |
| Im glad to see she's reconsidering her oversight policy of the Beacon. I was open to see how she would fare as principal but agree with many PPs that she's off to a rocky start and seems oblivious to it. She's not visible (according to my DC who has no idea who she is)has not communicated at all with the community, and there have been myriad scheduling problems and missing teachers. If there are problems at the school, it's best to get ahead of them. At this point, the problems seem way ahead of her. And let's face it, you only make a first impression once- hers is not looking good. |
|
While I am mystefied by the principal's insistence on meddling where there have been no problems, I am also a little taken aback by some of the parental meddling on this board.
Do we really need to start a kickstarter for the kids (can't they do it themselves?) or "help" them create an alternative paper? These are super smart kids who are in high school and while it is great to cheer them on as they face these obstacles...let's let them fight their own battles, OK? |
|
If it's taken a week plus to get the schedules corrected/finalized, that is a colossal waste of time for everyone, including the teachers.
Besides, it sounds like only the heartiest kids/families would even stick this out, which is stacking the deck against some. |
There is quite a bit of dry humping and butt shaking, but less than i expected. |
This is a good point. I feel sorry for kids who don't have someone to help them. |
| So to those who feel principal deserves thanks rather than critiques -- by your own words you are hurting her more still, it is even worse that she didn't just blunder this one if in fact she was pulling a new sheriff in town attitude and that this was some act of retribution to TEENAGERS because she ft offended by characterization of her in a summer issue of the high school paper?? Now that we be pathetic. And thin skinned. And as we all now know a total waste of everyone's time and energy considering the failure on schedules, communiques, wasted classroom teaching time, the fact many kids have no clue who she is-- how can one embarrass her filing her further by painting her as vindictive, too? |
sorry, too many typos here to be sure what you mean |
| My freshman son went to Wilson mid-August to look at his schedule and make changes. His schedule still had an issue last Monday, so he emailed his counselor and made an appointment with her last week. It was fixed in less than a minute. DCPS switched from STARS to a new scheduling program, which everyone still seems to be learning. Not an excuse, but let's cut them some slack. |
| How does one get ON the pro-Martin bandwagon? All this turmoil and still no message from the principal in any context. She needs to step up and own up to some blunders, or at least re-assure parents who now see she has made the Washington Post over mis-calculating the Wilson community. PP -- please tell us why would she be confident based on these first impressions? we (most parents) have been optimistic for the new leadership, and have been let down. What advice would you give Principal Martin? |
If only more kids had seen their schedules mid-August...I was actually in the building the second week of August, and asked a certain VP when schedules would be ready. He said they would go out on the 17th, they were not finalized yet. I'm glad your child got access to his schedule though. |
| I've had two kids go through Wilson and this is the first year I can remember the schedules being so screwed up. Like Jeff noted my kid also had to wait days to get it fixed. Only one of the counselors ever helpful, and unfortunately we are not in her group. I would also doubt that the freshman class is anywhere near that big. My kid doesn't seem to think it any bigger than years past. There's no huge overcrowded classes, but mine is a jr andaybe the upper grades are better off than the freshman. I too know first hand that this is not the norm for disorganization schedule wise at other school systems. Fortunately I know though that my kids are still getting a great education and getting into better colleges than their private and charter school friends, so hang in there Jeff, if you can. It does get better, great even. I've been saying for years that I'm going to make a T shirt for all my fellow DCPS parents saying something like, "DCPS Parent Survivor" or my kid graduated from DCPS, but all I got was this lousy t-shirt" |
| Sorry for all the typos in previous post. Tired eyes on phone, and I missed a bunch. |
| Principal does not own the master schedule??!! In what universe?? Yes, they most certainly do. |
