| Martin has had problems at every school she has worked. In Aspen the teachers had no confidence in her. Aspen for crumb's sake. How she got hired I'll never know and now this. |
| So far everyone who has commented is in agreement that Martin is wrong. A DCUM DCPS forum record? |
| sounds like Martin would fit right in at Central Office |
| So what now? Where do things stand with the Beacon staff? Will they continue publishing as-is or let her have her "prior review" or will they simply stop? |
| Apparently students were handed this Beacon issue on their way out the door Friday and the word is OUT! I have 4 Wilson kids at my house right now and they all are taking about how this principal made such a poor impression with this move. They also all say there is yet to be any school assembly that makes them feel part of one community and that they have never seen her. Time to introduce herself, back off the Beacon and start fresh. She also needs to apologize for the messed up scheduling that has take up so much of the first week of school, whether she could have helped it or not. Do they not have he internet in Aspen? His is she so clueless about DCPS and in particular Wilson High?? |
| Can she be recalled, I mean replaced? She and Bowser together can go find a rock to hide under for the messes they've made. |
Exactly! That's usually where the control freaks who fail working in schools wind up. |
|
It is a mistake made by an amateur.

No horse in this race. And in all honesty I'm one of the people who chimes in occasionally to say that most of the Wilson posters are terribly judgmental people with too much time on their hands who will never give anyone a fair shot...and even I'm put off by this move. It feels like an effort of an administrator that is very unsure of herself and is overreaching to show how in control she is.
One of the points in the house ed is that by approving everything she's actually taking on more liability, not less. The concept in regulatory spaces is called "adoption". It means by reviewing it and commenting on it, and lord knows by approving it, you have made it your own. If you hadn't reviewed or approved it then it remains the responsibility of 3rd party that created it. Doesn't DCPS have a legal team that could help her with this? |
| The on-line article is excellent. It makes me very proud of the Beacon journalism team. The students deserve a principal that is up to the task of leading this incredibly diverse, unique and talented school. |
| Quick question - did the schedules ever arrive in the mail eventually? As a Wilson parent I would want to follow up on this subcontracting of schedule mailing (thats $ spent) and where those schedules ended up. |
| My DC's schedule arrived in the mail the second day of school. NOt sure why, but it was different than the schedule DC picked up on Saturday. The one on Saturday was correct. |
| The schedules did come on Monday 24th. The chaos that has resulted from not having them in advance, however, has been so disruptive to the first week. One of the issues is that there is a new DCPS scheduling software being used for the first time coupled with the retirement of the assistant principal was served as the master scheduler. This means that the counselors making schedule adjustments don't have that person as a resource as they are trying to make fixes for students. Most students have also been assigned to new counselors due to switching from alpha to grade level groupings. If the schedules had come out in advance, at least some of the needed adjustments could have been done in advance of the first day by students and families going in early. We did that to meet the new counselor and she was able to sort out my DC's schedule then. Am hoping things will improve, but the Beacon issue is very concerning. |
Dr.? |
Wilson not only high school with schedule problems last week. Ellington's were also a mess - same DCPS mandated software and contractor mailing as Wilson. |
