I think so. Parents aren't happy. Google is always an option.

Here's her bio from Center City PCS:

####
Over the last eight years, Ms. Lyons-Lucas has served the students of Washington D.C., as an English teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. Additionally, she participated as a curriculum writer/developer for DCPS on the Common Core Alignment. A North Carolina Native, Ms. Lyons-Lucas received her Bachelor of Arts in English from North Carolina State University, and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from American University. She is a member of Cohort 12 for New Leaders for New Schools, and is currently working on a second master’s degree from Trinity University. Her goals for the Capitol Hill campus are to provide a safe and supportive learning environment, engage students with an intellectually stimulating curriculum, and nurture our children to become lifelong learners.
####

Nothing negative jumping out at me there. Any Powell folks want to chime in?

Why are parents unhappy w/o even knowing her bio?

A Google search shows she's coming from Center City where she served as a principal for a year. She has 7 years of teaching experience in DC, served as AP and is a graduate of New Leaders Cohort 12.

Correction: Looks like she was a teacher for 5 years & AP for 2 in DCPS....Principal for 1 at Center City.

Not a Powell parent but she looks pretty solid. Of course she does fit that young female prototype, but not in the scrapping the bottom of the barrel and 'Golly gee! I got a neat job and get to pad my resume!' kinda way. More in the 'she seems like a legit hire and I can see her being one of the best DC can now attract after turning off most experienced lifelong educators.Seven years of classroom experience is solid.

Wonder why she was principal at CC for just one year and whether she was able to provide that safe and supportive learning environment as was her goal.

Then again, from the things I've heard, I wouldn't want to work at CC for too long either. I'd probably be running back to DCPS too.

The problem is that Powell has a Dean, an AP, and now a Principal who do not speak Spanish.

The new Powell principal is African-American.

And she knows DCPS, as she was in the system as a teacher and AP.

That makes her a native English speaker.

Oops! Just reread that and realize your issue is that she doesn't speak SPANISH.

What happened to the AP who's on the site? Looks like he's a Spanish speaker.

Are there lots is non-English speaking Hispanic families at Powell? If that's not the case, the fact that the principal doesn't speak Spanish is not such a big deal....loold like they've got plenty of people there who can translate for families as needed.

I take it Powell's a language school? If that's the case, a Spanish speaker would be ideal. (But I think we've established that DC's in a 'take what you can get' position. Due to their own hubris in thinking talent would just keep lining up cause hey it's DC look at us!)

Wow, lots of spouting from people who don't know much or even anything about the schools or the principals. Thank you for your valuable contributions.
