Why is redshirting so common around here?

Anonymous
My concern isn't about the age of kindergarten students but is about the age of high school seniors. We do not need 19 year old high school senior boys.

There are only two reasons to hold your child back:

(1) They are delayed or have special needs or

(2) You just don't want them to be the youngest.

So, which is it? Those are your only options.

So true. Starting so late has far-reaching implications.

That isn't a concern with those born in the summer, which is the vast majority of those who wait a year

#2. I would rather your kid be the youngest.

Either they are delayed or you just want them to be oldest. Nothing wrong with the first; the second is selfish and entitled.

At least this PP admits it.

Obviously, because some other kid needs to be the youngest.

You're right! You have figured out my super secret reason for holding him back. I just say there are other reasons to throw others off, but the real reason is I don't want to be the SUCKER with the youngest kid in the class. You're so clever to figure that out.

Of course. And obviously you should be fine with your kid being the youngest. B/c you were ok when it was my kid.

Are there any rational anti-redshirting people? The ones posting here sound totally nutty.

I'm fine with my kid being the youngest, even in a class of redshirted kids. As a PP says, the smartest kids aren't the ones who are held back. They're ready to go. Are you fine with being a person who thinks the rules should apply to everyone but you?
