Explain the Murch renovation saga to me please.

But Deal and Janney got first dibbs on the money. Murch parents really do need to kick butt to preserve the funding and fight DGS slippage.

There is more info including the plan for city officials. You can find it on the Murch website.

any updates?

The Murch website has it all. There are still some unknowns (swing space, park land) but moving forward. There was a big meeting with the city at Murch about a month ago and a bit testy but city is fully committed to renovation and sticking to the new timeline.

There was a commitment made to put in covered walkways (a la Lafayette) for Trailer City. Those were supposed to happen quickly and we have seen nothing so who the hell knows.

UDC could be great for swing space! Or the Howard law school?

Does anyone know how the mayor's recent statement about revising the capital planning process might affect the Murch renovation. The mayor said that any projects already set for the coming fiscal year will go forward but plans beyond that might be affected. Thanks!

Look at the Murch website, there is a lot of detailed info. Basically they promised to start the renovation in June 2016.

Reading between the lines the new policy statement means that Kaya and Muriel are done with listening to those whom they view as whiny parents. The renovations of Janney (of course), Lafayette and Murch will get by, but any other WOTP school community that does not currently have a renovation project shouldn't hold their breath. Considering how poorly Bowser did in Ward 3 in the last election, other school parents may have grandchildren before those schools see any renovation dollars.

I think the only Ward 3 elementary school that has not had a renovation in decades is John Eaton. But, yes, if I were Eaton I would probably forget about a renovation anytime soon. Bad timing karma.

Um ok? I mean it is just blocks from Murch already. Do you see people dodging that area because of the "brown folk?" Nope, theos racist Murch families choose to live right near those "brown folks." Odd isn't it?

They looked at UDC (damn, more "brown folk" again!) and St. Ann's. I don't know the specifics but nether one will work. They are trying to see if they can out trailers in the park service land to use as the swing space. Park service has been less than helpful.

Why wouldn't UDC work? It worked for Wilson? That said, I wish UDC had moved when Mayor Williams tried to get them to move to the St. E's campus. The ugly Brutalist concrete buildings on the UDC Van Ness campus make the FBI J. Edgar Hoover building seem positively charming. And it's always been a struggle for the neighborhood to get regular access to the UDC pool and tennis courts during off hours. UDC has hardly been the best neighbor.

You're right. Those Murch families would have to accept the brown folk because Howard is technically Inbounds . OOB brown people are absolutely not acceptable to some Murch families (and you know I am not lying).

They didn't elaborate on why UDC wouldn't work. They have a major construction project going on which may have played into it. They said St. Ann's has already been leased out.

No clue what the PP is trying to get at about brown folk. Very odd poster.

For some folks, race-baiting is a hobby. And among the old DC political class, it's practically a spectator sport.

What are you talking about? Ever actually seen the student body? Demographics are 66% white, 12% black, 9% Asian, 8% Latino, 5% mixed race. Not a school afraid of "brown" people.
