Rethinking Maryland

Maryland seems to be held in higher regard by students in New Jersey (1,500 a year go to Maryland) than by DMV students. Maryland has a 95% retention rate that is in line with Top 25 schools and much higher than other schools in the rankings.

The schools that you listed are in pretty, small town locations, with major cities within driving distance. Maybe that is why people prefer them. Also, kids like to get away from home and Maryland may feel like you are going to school in your backyard.

I went to Indiana and I, personally, never liked the scuzzy Route 1 that leads into the University of Maryland. Ick. Indiana Univ. at Bloomington tops Maryland by leaps and bounds if you are talking about the idyllic college town.

Why didn't you stay closer to Bloomington and come crawling back to Umd territory? Because it's in the middle of loserville! it was fun pounding you in the 2002 natty and last week in football. BTW you rank really low in all world university rankings.

Stupid idiot. Makes UMD look bad.

Awww. "I just said UMD is scuzzy and ick! Then the tough, smart UMD booster pointed out worse things about MY school that really sting WAAAAAHH!

UMD booster seems to have some real problems. Also not enough work to do.

Neat video. I like it.

UMD is for strivers who want to make a better life for themselves and their families and are not adverse to grinding to get what they want.

Private school kids have a much larger safety blanket, come from a life of reduced need to be hungry for success and therefore place lifestyle and surroundings much higher in the college priorities list.

Here is an awesome video.

UMD (which has more college sports national championships , Nobel/fields medal/academy award /Pulitzer / Emmy alumni than UNC by far) comes back from 2-0 to tie and beat UNC in the national championship game. That kind of comeback is practically impossible .

At the end the UNC players throw their sticks in out of control anger!!

Btw UNC just got caught cheating in basketball and football for the last two decades.

To my fellow Terp...UMCP parent here and alumnus...please stop with the incessant boastful posts. I used to think you had the best interests of the region at heart, but you're now actively alienating people who might otherwise embrace UMCP and what it has to offer.

This was a positive thread and now it's devolved into petty insults.

I love UMCP and don't see the need to have to defend it at every turn. It's perfect for my kids but might not appeal to everyone. Please be gracious.

And mentions the founder of Under Armour like he cured cancer.

No I don't. I do mention the alums who invented coronary stents, the miniaturized insulin pump, implantable cardiac defibrillators, epileptic early warning device, pulse dopplar radar, the universal product code, the hybrid engine, the octane system, google, Sirius satellite radio, retractable landing gear, the muppets, broke Watergate.

Underarmour, the Wire, Largescreen stadium television and Seinfeld are just the massive cultural impact each of which is greater than any other ACC school has produced.

Oh Lord. You sound like my FIL when he gets going on Duke.
