The number one priority should be to mitigate the safety threat. I feel for the victim's family, but making sure the perpetrator is caught is really the most important thing at this time.

I absolutely agree. That's where the APD part of my statement comes in -- there's nothing we in the community can do to mitigate the safety threat except take personal safety precautions, watch out for our neighbors, and report any information we have that could be helpful to the APD.

Agreed. My handgun sits in the house gathering dust, I think I will conceal carry it for awhile now, that's my contribution to my neighborhood, that and being extra vigilant is all I guess I can do.

Ugh. Please don't.

We don't need more people with a heightened sense of false heroism.

To the person that's obviously associated with the APD - please stop. You are embarrassing yourself, and further embarrassing our pd. You are not helping with your aggressive responses to people.

I have no association with APD. I'm just sick of people who fan the flames of innuendo and speculation when something serious has happened.

I am not embarrassing myself. Don't worry.

I live halfway between Elm Street and Ridge Road Drive and have been following the Kirby and this case closely. Both victims were home during lunchtime during a week day (although for Kirby it was Veterans Day), neither had forced entry, nothing was taken, both victims around AARP age, Caucasian, working professionals well known in local community. It almost seems like a crazy person leaves their job on their lunch hour, commits these crimes, goes back to work.

You think he took the bus?

Maybe bike? Wasn't Kirby on a transportation committee? A lot of cyclists (not all) are kind of militant about their cycling.

Could've had a fake beard and a wig. Why hasn't anybody mentioned that?

This is what I'm thinking.

Or easily shaved it off by now.

I'm disappointed that an entire day has passed, and no sketch or other details have been released. Maybe APD is doing something behind the scenes, but it doesn't sound like they have anything additional going on, again.

Somebody would've reported a coworker coming to work post lunch hour no longer having a beard.

Do the Alexandria busses have cameras?

Unless he's a loner type or works from home, self-employed, retired, etc.

Amazing how someone can impersonate an older man. Anybody see "bad grandpa"? Someone who can slip away so easily and so fast without much trail seems like someone capable of disguising himself.
