lol. I'm the person who wrote that the library is packed on Saturday nights. It truely is. There are about 4 levels underground and the deeper you go, the busier it gets. It's open until 3am daily. My friend who went there (and on to an elite medical school) said that most of his undergraduate memories are from one of the two libraries. He used to sleep in the one. It's an interesting culture. |
^^^that is a very nice part of Baltimore to the north or the west of the school. Just don't go 10 blocks south or cross york road/greenmount ave and you will be perfectly fine. |
Chicks are way hotter at Georgetown. That’s why. |
I think OP is talking about JHU undergrad, not JHU medical school. |
Sure. Maybe that's the med school complex in East Baltimore. But definitely not the Homewood campus.
It's quite clear you know nothing about Baltimore or Hopkins. At all. I doubt you've even been there..... where are these "dangerous" streets you had to traverse after attending a night party? |
| Lol, let’s get real. There have been four armed robberies two blocks from Homewood campus around E 33rd st in the past month in the middle of the afternoon. This is the heart of undergrad living and a very nice area, but it is not immune to the crime nor actually encased in a bubble. The crime won’t stop my kid from going in the fall, but you can bet it’ll make her think twice about being aware of her surroundings. |

Homewood is part of Baltimore. The whole city is not that big.
College students don't stay in the leafy suburbs, they drive to parties and bars late at night. http://www.city-data.com/forum/baltimore/370675-poll-most-dangerous-strip-baltimore.html |
| Because Baltimore is a violent dump with no other peer colleges. DC, NYC, Boston, Philly even Chicago offer far more fun, access to thousands of other college kids, and more dynamic economies. |
|
I think that one starry-eyed poster is either trying to protect the market value of their house, or convince themselves that they are not paying hundreds of thousands of dollars so their kid can live in the Heroin Capital of America.
|
And, correct me if I'm wrong, the third mayor in a row is about to leave under scandal? City is hopeless. |
| We’ve been looking at the houses around Homewood and most of the rehabbed ones go under contract within two weeks. I don’t think home values are the problem. Remington is the next big spot to jump in sales but it’s not ideal for us. I say this even though the area is swamped with some horrible houses and tons of foreclosures: jhu is enough of an anchor that the real estate market is a safe bet or a deal ready to happen. It’s definitely a quirky place. |
Sadly, this. Isn't BLM awesome. |
Are you deranged?? This pathetic and not true at all.... would you be from Maryland??? If you really think this is true did you actually attend college?? Maybe USNA (BY the way I had no idea what that was and have never thought of as good bad or at all)?? Maybe Hopkins? Both not really ranked that highly. graduate of two schools on that list in top 5 of any US survey and find your statement that only seven colleges matter insane |

I used to live in Baltimore, on Charles St. 3 blocks up the street from the inner harbor. Absolutely loved it. Fells Point, Federal Hill, the harbor, etc...
But for college students - JHU and Loyola. It is the crappy party of the city. No thanks. But the kids that go there don't socialize at all. |
The area between JHU and Loyola is a beautiful neighborhood of stately homes. Did you not ever drive up Charles? It's hardly a crappy part of the city.....
