Prepping/Scamming the Cogat

Intelligence is fixed. No amount of prepping helps. Why is everyone so paranoid? If your kid is gifted there is absolutely no reason to be paranoid? There's no need to worry and fret abourt other kids who study and prep since their intelligence is fixed and IQ and percentiles and performance CANNOT be increased in any meaningful way by prepping.

Then do your best for your kid by using the "reading and feeding" them method. Let them play video games like Professor Layton and Minecraft. Let them watch a little TV, and let them do their homework completely on their own. Go to the MENSA website, and let them do some of the puzzles there, including the speed challenge. Read, read, read. There are lots of things you can do to prep your child for success on these kinds of tests. The above are the kinds of things we do, and our kids are successful. So it doesn't matter to us if someone else decides to spend all their spare time on expensive practice tests. Works for them, fine. Not the way I would do it, but I am not in their house and don't really consider it my business.

Different methods to the same path. We aren't all wired the same, so the way we prepare doesn't need to be either.

That's cheating since these activities prep kids for some aspects of standardized tests. You'll stop cheating now.

TV time and video games are the key to my kid's test taking success and upper 99% scores. We must be the biggest cheats on the planet, or at least the district

Why do I tell the teacher that my kid took sample test for NNAT when not asked??
What's your point??

Precisely, who goes around telling their teacher they have read all the classics and studied all Khan's videos in mathematics.

A lot of insecure nuts on this board.

I doubt your kid will be successful in school for long.

It's the same cast of characters who spend their waking hours on DCUM bragging about the natural brilliance of their children and the scores of 99.9%. When not awake they are dreaming of their child's future wealth and rubbing shoulders with all the other Ivy league parents.

Sounds like a great life. Don't need to work and can pay for Ivy league.

I also told my DC that whenever the AAP teacher would visit his class he should always raise his hand and answer her questions. He should show her how smart he is. Guess I gamed that system too.

Should I call the AAP police and self report?

Oh. The Ivy League. There is no cheating or scamming going on there. Of course not. They are the true geniuses of our country, every one of them. Look no further than the threads on this forum to see shinning examples of their briillance.

Isn't it much better to study and prep rather than cheat by copying another student's answers?

These are the same fools who spend their time "creating" on the lacrosse field and playing video games. They inherited their natural intelligence from their dcum parents.

One aspect of high intelligence is the ability to encounter a never-before-seen problem and solve it.

When a child is shown practice tests over and over again to the point where the child has essentially memorized all the different types of problems that could possibly be seen on the test, the test results show how well the child can memorize, not how well the child can solve a new problem.

Is being able to memorize a good quality? Sure, but it is not the same as having the ability to solve problems. And doing well on the test by memorizing will not have any true effect in making the child more intelligent. Will being able to memorize and figure out what the county is looking for get kids into AAP and eventually TJ? Yes, but it does not change the underlying intelligence of the child. Memorizing can only take you so far in life. I have seen parents on message boards looking for regular, weekly tutors for their TJ students and I wonder why a child who is qualified for TJ would be in need of extra help on a regular basis.

Those who have studied and prepared rarely encounter problems they have never seen before and rely on pattern recognition, accumulated knowledge and expertise, and their honed critical thinking skills to tackle a new problem. Memorization has very little to do with studying, preparing and working hard.

Thus, preparation ("prep") and working hard at one's academic studies correlates with improved performance on tests and evaluations. This routine will also improve ones memory!
