PTA and Parent Association fees -- poll

I heard the brood of hens clucking away at pick-up and in the playground this afternoon. Good job on your "offensive". Nothing like a gaggle of ill-reared biddies getting together to make it look like there is a conspiracy afoot on DCUM. I especially loved watching you all point across the parking lot at the current PA president and speak ill of her while bemoaning all the down-trodden and "poor folk" while speaking with great self-congratulatory tones about the diversity at the school. Funny thing- only one of you four ladies seemed to even know who she was, but yet you were all so very concerned with PA business.
Here's a suggestion: roll up your damn sleeves, grow some balls, come to meetings and DO SOMETHING. And quit your goddamn DCUM biddy bitch-fests. No one actually gives a flying fark about you and how you waste your time complaining about SES when there are plenty of people who can/want to/will help anyone out.
Whining without action is for the feeble minded. So go cobble together a cohesive plan of action and get something, ANYTHING done.

Please tell me that you told them this to their faces instead of running here to post. Really. If you don't check this sort of behavior when it happens then it continues. Moreover, it sets a terrible example for our children. If you see something that is wrong, stand up to wrongdoer. It is the only way our kids learn to stand up for themselves and others.

The PA president is incredibly hard working and dedicated to the school. She puts in countless hours and has done a tremendous amount for the school. It makes me angry and sad if what you describe happened and I hope if what you say is true that the women in the playground feel some sense of remorse.

Agree with sentiment behind 20:54...problem with America in general...lots of whining, no action. I personally am very grateful to the President and the whole team for their hard work.... Very easy to second guess/criticize from the sidelines. People have had months if not longer to process/take action on this info.

Are things so contentious that contested votes even happen?

YY PA is the same. Although people here claim it's about people voting on expenditures - only those who give money should have a vote on how it's spent (makes sense) - that's simply not true since "voting" always seems to pass whatever the board proposes. It's really about who gets to vote for board president and other officers in the PA. Only parents who pay should get to choose them.

The YY PA should allow every parent participation in the PA (already does). However, the only members allowed to vote on expenditures are those who have paid dues for those expenditures.

Case closed.

Please move the YY conversation to its own thread

Sweetie, this thread was started by a YY parent regarding a YY matter.

Honey, every thread on DCUM eventually becomes a YY thread. Put them all in one place

At YY, (I missed the first year) there has been a single slate, meaning getting anyone to run has been a huge effort. this year it sounds like there may be multiple candidates for positions, which is great, but "votes" in the past have been voice acclamations after much cajoling for folks to run.

Whoa, I've actually read both versions of the by-laws (and authored neither), and the "nut-job" version is clearly superior as to both style and substance.

School's getting bigger. Lots of new families. Not surprising the founders want to put this in place when "voting" will actually mean something.

This has nothing to do with the founders. This was done by the small committee (I heard lots of pleas for more people to help, but not many did and I include myself in that lot) of parents, most of whom were elected -- PA president, VP, treasurer and two or three other PA members.

So that explains the email showing the suggested voluntary donations for area public schools. Truthfully, I don't care much about voting in PA matters (I paid) but I do have a problem with being deliberately mislead.

Thanks OP for starting this thread.

"nut job" is pushing hard to get elected. Interesting that he waited until now to develop this instead of working cooperatively when the bylaws were being drafted.....
