I've been a member of our PTA for eight years, and I've attended pretty much every meeting -- I was on the executive committee for two years, my wife was president for two years. In that time, I can't remember a single issue brought before the membership that didn't pass unanimously on a voice vote. Are other PTA's (or PA's) different? Are things so contentious that contested votes even happen?
YY PA is the same. Although people here claim it's about people voting on expenditures - only those who give money should have a vote on how it's spent (makes sense) - that's simply not true since "voting" always seems to pass whatever the board proposes. It's really about who gets to vote for board president and other officers in the PA. Only parents who pay should get to choose them.
