Parents drinking beer while taking kids trick-or-treating?

PP, what are you thinking? You should be afraid your LO will go to preschool and draw a picture of you surfing DCUM and typing "fucksake"?!

Darling,
The problem is not the receptacle where you were drinking from. The problem is the content and your attitude. That will influence your child way more than the cup's shape or color.

I don't see this as a big deal either. As people have mentioned, to my kids anything other than water, milk or juice is an adult beverage. To them the only difference between coffee and red wine is that coffee is hot.

I have to think some of these posts are jokes. Nobody could possibly care about adults enjoying a glass of wine or a bottle of beer amongst friends while walking around together for an hour. It is entirely appropriate and a great example of fellowship. Glad to see some parents/neighbors out there making friends and being social.

Do you need alcohol for this? What a shame!

Maybe it's a bad case of "mommy brains" so let me explain more clearly...

If you had a great time, I'm clearly NOT TALKING TO (OR ABOUT) YOU!

I'm talking about those folks who cannot go to bed without their little fix, being it that bottle of beer or glass of wine. Drinking in public is not responsible, it's not safe, it's not a good example. It's just a bad idea all together.

If someone gets hurt the first thing on the police report will be the alcohol level in the blood. It will be in the autopsy report no matter how sober you think you are. And if you guys know of any stupid drunk caught doing something idiotic who said "I'm sorry I'm drunk" please give them a golden star. Nobody caught drunk says they've been drinking.

Police officers and health care providers have formulas to figure out how much you've been drinking. They multiply what you said by 3 to get a more accurate number.

Every time I read this kind of posts I get more and more scared... I can't believe you're my neighbors and we're sharing the road. So Scary!

You are so nuts it isn't even funny. Drinking in moderation is healthy, and supportive of cardiovascular health. Moderate drinkers have considerably lower rates of heart disease than teetotalers. Modelling moderate drinking is healthy. Drinking moderately in public is modelling appropriate behavior. Nobody on this thread is talking about staggering around drunk. You should be scared, but not of your neighbors, of the dark places in your soul that make you unable to relax and enjoy life.

Hello, neighbor! Cheers!!

So now people are dying while walking around with friends, having a beer while their kids trick-or-treat? This thread started around adults walking in the neighborhood - not about alcoholism - so it seems you've gone a bit OT.

I support responsible drinking, but I don't see walking around my neighborhood with a beer as irresponsible. I suspect some would be scandalized to know that DH and I will even do this during the summer, in the daylight, with kids in the stroller and on bikes. For shame.

I am an Arlington parent who passed out the beer and wine in party cups to those over at our house for the preHalloween party! Geez people. Noone was drunk and all had a good time.

It sounds like it all depends on your neighborhood-- in some neighborhoods, there may be 2 or 3 people who disapprove, and express their opinions online because they are too much in the minority to bring it up with their neighbors IRL. In my neighborhood, I saw no one drinking, and since many of our neighbors are elderly or of a different ethnicity and don't trick or treat with their kids, we don't have such a festive Halloween atmosphere and I probably wouldn't walk around with a cup of wine.

Anyone watch 'Boardwalk Empire" on HBO? 'Agent Van Alden's' wife seems to be a member of DCUM....the horrors of alcohol! Evil, evil, evil.

You and your spouse can certainly walk around with a cup of wine if you thought it was fun. Don't need a huge crowd.
