How is to not be Jewish at GDS?

You are extremely parochial. I'm familiar with Georgetown Day, but have never, ever, heard anyone refer to it as GDS. You need to get out more.

Even The Colonel can barely believe your shit.

My daughter is a lifer at GDS. Yes, there are a good number of Jewish kids at the school, but that has never been an issue. No we are not Jewish. It used to bother me that they did not teach anything new when the Jewish kids were out of school due to the Jewish holidays, but then my daughter would use those days as extra study time or to work with her teachers to reinforce a skill or lesson.

Truthfully the only time that being Jewish is really highlighted is during the Bar/Bat Mitzvah season. They are incredibly learning experience for kids who are not Jewish, and a chance for all of the kids to come together and celebrate. But there are so many of them, and you find yourself as a parent helping your child navigate the ones that have more meaning to them, versus just wanting to go because your entire class was invited and the party afterwards. My daughter learned a lot about a faith that she didn't know about during her 7th grade year. I am happy, because I can honestly say that she would have never had that experience at home and in my family.

Seriously?
Yes, because while I'm "familiar" with it, I'm not in a circle where I know anyone who actually attends it. Have you heard of Greenwich Village? Almost everyone has, but growing up in NYC, I knew it as "the Village." Would you say "seriously?" if someone said they were familiar with Greenwich Village, but didn't know what someone meant when they made a reference to "the Village"? Y'all really need to get out more. Not everyone spends their mornings gossiping with other wealthy D.C. moms about the latest in private school admissions/scandals/etc.

Because it runs K-8, has been around about a third of the time of GDS, and has a couple hundred kids total.
Actually, the reason Gesher wouldn't be "GDS" is because the name of the school is Gesher Jewish Day School, or GJDS. But, in fact, those in the know just call it Gesher. You didn't know that? Wow, you must be a moron.

That I do not understand. I know the family is cheap. I see the stress they go through, all to have a party they cannot afford. The whole thing just made me feel so awkward. I thought the best thing to do is to politely decline an invitation. At least they can save money by saving on the cost of a quest. And I was not able to buy an expensive enough present to cover the cost and something about it just felt so off putting
