Why has DC failed so badly on clearing the streets?

I demand to know why our councilmember isn't doing something about this. It's like they don't care!

The trash truck just came to pick up the trash from the front of my house.

I had no idea they were coming. You might want to put your trash in the front.

What day do you normally get trash pickup?

It's weird that some people defend the city here. The DC government's reaction to the snow has been a failure in almost every conceivable way.

Trash (or recycling?) truck just passed our house and we're normally a Wednesday pickup. Good job on the communication Bowser!

Specifically, the mayor. It's the mayor's job to run city services. It's weird when people blame council members because the mayor executed something poorly.

I just, finally saw a facebook message from a staffer at DPW that says nothing will be collected in the alley until further notice. Bring your trash around front.

If I were you I would just keep it in the front until the alleys are passable.

But the city council is a co-equal branch, right? In fact, it often seems like it's the city council who actually runs the city....

Define "co-equal".

They can pass laws and budgets. How does that help you when your trash isn't being picked up? Unless it's a budget problem like not enough funding for trash services.

And sure, there's the oversight role too, but that's nothing more than public shaming if the mayor disregards the feedback.

To be clear, some things do go back to the council as part of the problem, but lots of what we're seeing is poor execution from the mayor.

You know it's a shit show when the members of the city council, who normally tell Bowser what to do, are suddenly claiming to be powerless.

And how are people whose trash is normally collected in the rear supposed to get their very heavy, overflowing trash cans to the front if the alleys are not passable?

I'm just the messenger.

Lets get the National Guard in here to shovel.

This is a prime example of why Trump should just take over the city. Such a gross incompetence

Trump is worse in every way than Mayor Bowser. Have you seen what he's done to Minneapolis? To FEMA? To USAID? To the Department of Education? The opposite of functional and effective.
