I’m wondering if her doctors are all correct and Op actually just has health anxiety and is losing weight from severe anxiety. Because why would you go get all these bloodwork orders and then wait a full week to even go get them drawn, if you’re convinced you have cancer? Also, the multiple scans within the past year all being clear is an excellent sign. OP I’m kind of confused by what you’re up to but as someone who has known people to have lots of weight loss and it end up being cancer, I do hope you are ok. Please post an update when you can! |
This is the answer. If you’re losing a pound a day, unintentionally, thats really unusual. Combined with abdominal pain, you should go to the ER. They’re not going to do all these exact specific tests and scans that you’re hunting for BUT they will almost certainly do an abdominal ultrasound, abdominal CT, and bloodwork. If there is anything really bad happening, it will show up. If you had a clear colonoscopy (besides a few polyps that were removed) like 8 weeks ago, I would be really surprised if it’s a cancer anywhere in your GI tract |
Op here. Before jumping to conclusions it would have been nice if you and the PP had read my updates. Why would I wait to give my tests? |
| Sounds like it could be a cancer. |
|
OP- I lost 35-40 pounds shortly. I maybe needed to lose TEN. I got down to 105. I wasn’t adsorbing ANY vitamins or nutrients.
I’m on monthly vitamin infusions, at the hematology department in our local, massive hospital system. I do not have cancer. I have an absorption problem. I’m eating like my teen boys, they have well rounded diets. I’m back to 120 which is a good weight for my height (5’5”) and build (small bones). But if I don’t keep up I drop weight quickly. |
I have no idea but you posted saying the doctor ordered bloodwork like a week ago. Maybe they took a long time to send over the order? Which sucks. I don’t know what was wrong with the next comment- going to the ER for abdominal pain and rapid weight loss will absolutely rule out most cancers within the 6-8 hours that you’re there. I personally would not hesitate to do this Since it sounds like you’ve gotten worse quickly within the last couple of weeks. And if everything looks clear that’s great- waiting until January to get the other more detailed stuff done is probably safe. My fingers are crossed for you |

Does no one remember the constant loose stools FOR THREE YEARS that OP mentioned in first post? And he restricting fluids to mitigate?
That's the striking thing and no doctor seems to address that? Giardia? |
How did they not address it? They did a colonoscopy and it sounds like a lot of bloodwork and scans. If they did any kind of stool sample I’m assuming they’d have checked for that but good point, if no one did a stool sample that’s so easy and cheap to get done and WAY overdue! But I also don’t think guard is would Go on for 3 years? |
OP here. Thank you! I was just replying to the statement that I may have anxiety after all. I gave my blood tests the day after I saw the doctor (had to go next day since they wanted me fasting) and only after I got my results few days later I knew that the CA19-9 and TSH tests were left out. I had not asked for a printout of what tests were ordered from the lab technician inside the doc office. I had to go back again for these and had more tests - Vitamins B6, K, A, CA19-9, TSH, C4. Again had to wait for my results - apparently some Vitamin tests longer than others. So I was not waiting a week to give the tests like it was mentioned. I now got back my TSH and CA 19-9 results and those are normal. C4 was high (inflammation marker). Still waiting on the Vitamin test results. Have been able to get an earlier cancellation appointment for one of the MRI's so I am happy about that. Since C4 was high, I guess I will have to go back for further blood tests this upcoming week. Doctor has not sent any message yet so I will have to call and follow up. |
OP here. I am supposed to do a GI Biofire test again. I did one last year and 2.5 years ago and it did now show anything abnormal. |
Thank you! This give me hope. Did your GI doc refer you to hematology and they diagnosed you? What kind of tests did you get to confirm diagnosis? |
|
OP are your loose stools greasy?
Do you have any recurrent sinus or congestion issues? Is there any chance you have adult onset cystic fibrosis? |
Is that even a thing? CF is a genetic thing. In rare cases you wont have noticeable symptoms until the teen years and get a late diagnosis but I don’t think you can have an “adult onset” of a genetic mutation. |
Yes it is a thing. A close friend of DH had mysterious symptoms for years and was finally diagnosed in his 40s. It's DIAGNOSED in adulthood because person had mild symptoms. It's called afult onset but it is indeed genetic. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12033639/ https://www.cff.org/community-posts/2020-11/late-cf-diagnosis-explained-everything |
I learned something new today! Thanks! |
