What do you want to buy that you have zero need for?

I had a not-so-great mother, who liked to deprive me of things we could easily have paid for. When I went to college, she didn't buy me anything, and I bought my own twin sheets with the money I made from my job and I didn't know to get twin xl and so they didn't fit. So I had sheets that I just had to lay on even though they literally didn't attach to the bed at the bottom. My duvet thing didn't fit either. My roommate complained that the room didn't look good because of it.

Pottery Barn Teen has a dorm room supplies build-your-bed feature, and I can spend hours choosing various Love Shack Fancy sheet, duvet, throw, and throw pillow combos.

This makes me sad. I'm sorry that your mom wasn't there for you to help with the seemingly small, but impactful things.

I want library shelves with one of those ladders that is on rails and moves back and forth. And a big leather chair to read in by a fireplace.

Baby things. I want to buy all the baby things, and toddler things. My own kids are teens, which is wonderful in many ways, but they don't need tiny shoes, and they like to pick their own clothing which doesn't feature things likes ducks or trucks.

You guys will judge me hard for this, but I just got an order for 11 new pairs of Birkenstocks. In my defense, we're expats and living in a tropical country that is sunny and warm all year, and I wear Birks every day.

The Big Buckle Patent Arizonas in Digital Green are my favorites. These are not in DCUM tastes, but I love them. They are a bright kelly green in shiny patent leather, and just look so happy.

I want this, and also a secret bookshelf door that leads into a playroom full of toys. My youngest is 16. Lol.

We are out there. You weren't alone. My mom skipped dropping me at college because of the two hour drive. I took a bus and a train and a cab! I went with a sleeping bag because I was 17 and ignorant. She skipped parents weekened too so I tagged along with my roomates family who are still friends to this day- I'm 53.

PS- my mom is dead and was only talking to 1 of her 4 kids when she died. Not one went to her funeral.

Be nice to your kids, people.

Ha! Heading to the beach today on a vacation (lucky me) and plan to visit my favorite Birkenstock store there to buy several pairs! I also wear Birks daily. Gizeh is my go-to!

Does this need to be custom made? I can’t find anything in furniture stores.

You go buy those things and enjoy them. My mom loves to buy college comforters, linens, towels, etc for my son. It’s a bit much but it brings her joy so I’ll just smile and nod.
