Some can do great, some will not.

Know your kid. Public is huge, lots of bad stuff to see but if you are in honors and aren't that sensitive, well adjusted with no learning issues, can do.

Some kids can have a great experience and some will try and it will suck. Some may be hesitant and it works great. You don't know unless you try.

Life is no guarantees. If anything, there's so much documentation on the pros and cons it shouldn't be so hard to figure out.

Know. Your. Kid!

But that it’s so kid specific is what makes people nervous and uncertain. In most places the public options work just fine for the vast majority, but here we have to worry over whether our kid is the “right” type in order for it to not be a train wreck.

True. My baseball loving, soft spoken, charming as hell, son turned into a gang banging drug dealer.

*Just kidding. He's 2 years into his Mechanical Engineering BS/MS combo degree at VT.

Pretty sure that isn’t what most of us are concerned about happening.

We know. You are scared about having your kid around brown people.

No, that’s not it but keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better.

The people who blindly defend ACPS and ignore all of its problems think they are boosting it as a school district but really just contribute to long-standing issues never being resolved.

People in APS and FCPS are also constantly complaining on this site. Every school district has problems. There are plenty of things I wish ACPS did differently but my children are having a great experience at our neighborhood schools.

That’s great. Half of middle and high schoolers responding to the annual equity climate survey disagree with the statement “I feel safe during school.” Their experience is valid too.

That is so sad.

That's better than the kids at most FCPS HSs

No, no it is not.

I'll play. Lets compare Herndon's admits to AC's!!!! You want to play?

Admits have nothing to do with feelings of safety. And one school is not “most FCPS HSs.”

You are trying to boost ACHS and can’t even follow a simple topic or line of reasoning.

Try and keep up, they didn't list 'one'. They listed literally 20% of the HSs is FC.

Over half of the students feel unsafe at 100% of ACPS high schools.

False.

DP. Here’s an ALXNOW article from August of 2024 reporting on ACPS findings that most students feel unsafe: https://www.alxnow.com/2023/08/25/report-shows-most-alexandria-middle-and-high-school-students-feel-unsafe/

Lol responding twice to the same comment pretending to be two different people. Very stable and normal. Such a great advocate for ACPS.

Not that it matters. That PP is the same unhinged person that shows up on every ACPS thread, unable to follow an argument, claiming facts that aren’t actually facts and with zero backing for them, sock puppeting, and writing barely coherent comments. Makes ACPS look bad.

-1 Learn to interpret data. That was the results of those that participated, not all those that attend the school. So, huge swaths of the population didn't erven take the survey. Because they felt safe. Of those that could be bothered, only half said they felt unsafe.

Still waaaaaay better than being a poor kid at Edison. Or Herndon. Or Annandale. Or South Lakes. Or Justice. Or Falss Church. Or.........

Sucks to be you.

I never said every kid responded, I said (in an earlier comment that cited the study) of the kids that responded to the survey. But—for those who actually care about the safety of kids in ACPS—the participation rate is high for a survey, and it is about much more than just safety in schools, so it is spurious to claim that kids that feel safe didn’t respond. But it’s okay, we know you like to make up “facts,” because you wouldn’t know what a fact is if it hit you in the face in a Minnie Howard hallway.

You are trying to make ACPS look good, but your unhinged comments with fabricated claims make ACPS look terrible. And that’s coming from an Alexandrian.

Yes, for people like us. The school is segregated.

Yale or jail, baby.

There are even some people who believe that surviving TC Williams/AHS is a plus on the transcript because it shows you overcame adversity. I mean that is a completely bullshit way to think but there are those who genuinely believe it.

Maybe thats true for the calendar year since we are 2.5 months in. But that’s clearly untrue for the school year as a whole.
