And ACHS has the same with videos! https://www.google.com/search?q=alexandria+city+high+school+fights&sca_esv=b275642f2649e319&rlz=1C1GCEB_enUS1032US1032&ei=4PbdZ-mGOtqCkvQPt9Lq6QM&oq=Alexandr+high+school+fights&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiG0FsZXhhbmRyIGhpZ2ggc2Nob29sIGZpZ2h0cyoCCAAyBhAAGAcYHjIIEAAYgAQYogQyCBAAGIAEGKIEMgUQABjvBTIIEAAYgAQYogRIqChQvAFYhxtwAXgAkAEAmAHDAaAB1g2qAQQ0LjExuAEByAEA-AEBmAIKoALwCMICDhAAGIAEGLADGIYDGIoFwgIIEAAYsAMY7wXCAgsQABiwAxiiBBiJBcICBBAhGArCAgoQABiABBhDGIoFwgIIEAAYBxgKGB6YAwCIBgGQBgeSBwMyLjigB5hLsgcDMS44uAflCA&sclient=gws-wiz-serp |
You posted a link to fights at one HS. PP posted links to fights at half a dozen HSs. PP wins. |
Quick question- what percentage of Fairfax high schools are represented in those results versus what percentage of Alexandria city high schools? The point is if you go to high school in Alexandria city public schools, your school will be on the news for fights. |
+1. If you google any county name + “high schools” + fight, which is what PP did, you will get some sort of result. That doesn’t mean it’s on the same level. That’s why if you google “Virginia high school closed fight” all of the results are ACHS. |
Because there is one HS, duh. In FCPS your odds of seeing a fight are high at half a dozen HSs. And yoir odds are even greater of not getting into a decent college. Want to compare Herndon's college admits versus AC's? |
Man, you are obsessed with Herndon |
AC’s admits are middling, I don’t know why you keep pushing this. A handful of kids do really well and for the rest it’s UVA + average schools. Which is fine. But there’s nothing exceptional about AC’s results. I wish there was, as I live here and it would be a selling point for the school and for my kids to go there, but when you actually look at the results they aren’t anything you can’t find at a dozen other NOVA public schools. |
This is untrue. There are many students who go to NOVA, or join the military, or attend HBCUs. But none of these are demographics that DCUM is interested in. |
DP. I don't think there's anything exceptional about ACHS but I do think these stats prove that it isn't some urban nightmare school like so many claim. You can go there and stay out of trouble and do really well, just like any other public school. Honestly as someone whose parents had a complete meltdown when I "only" got into Notre Dame (my actual first choice 🙄) instead of Princeton, I'm totally happy with my kids going to UVA or William and Mary or Virginia Tech. My oldest has waffled between wanting to be a teacher or wanting to be a police officer. You don't need to go to Stanford for that. It's really just frustrating when our kids have had a perfectly good experience in ACPS (CK and GW) and yet everyone acts like it's a warzone and flees, leaving us with fewer and fewer resources for the families who aren't able to make that choice. If everyone stayed and worked with the schools and fought for the changes that are needed (no school system is perfect), the schools would be even better. |
The problem is change takes time and is no sure bet. Most people don't want to gamble with their kids like that if they can avoid it. A majority of kids who are in ACPS do well academically and have a decent experience but I do think that many people who are in the system underestimate how the large size of the high school and threat of violence can have a negative effect on kids. It's not that the violence is widespread, it's that they see adults in their community either denying it ("other schools are bad too!") or admitting it's a problem outside of their control (Closing school for 2 days.) That demonstrates to kids that the adults are unreliable and can lead to them feeling unsafe. |
You don't even have kids there. That means you don't know jackshit. I'm sitting here laughing at you because its very possible my kid and your SSSAS kid were on the same travel team. Congrats, you spent $250,000 getting your kid into..... JMU. ![]() |
Alexandria Times publishes the schools where the kids go, plus there is the Instagram page each year. It’s not some closely held secret. My kids are little and we are deciding what to do for school. Posters like you make a great case for skipping ACPS altogether. |
You are a fool. My kids went ACPS- UVA-Georgetown Law and ACPS-UW. Keep digging for a reason that hides the fact you're just scared to send your kid to school with poor brown kids. |
Right, so: 1) there are thousands of kids that have graduated in recent years, and whether the admits are strong or not is based on the whole picture of the class and not a handful of examples and 2) your examples don’t demonstrate a result that is somehow better than any other high school in the area, which is what we’re discussing because someone (you?) keeps claiming it. In fact, my earlier comment specifically mentioned UVA as a common destination, which is a great school but not something unusual for NOVA high schools. Pretty foolish to not realize this. |
You really are a fool. The post you've quoted specifically details the financial benefits ($250,000) over private school kids ending up at JMU. Denigrate UVA all you want. I'll bet $50 you kids couldn't get in. |
