Underwhelming campus experience

Eww.

I loved Georgetown! Great upscale neighborhood, looked safe, beautiful enclosed campus.

I've read that the inside of the dorms are meh but we didn't see that part.

Georgetown the campus seems 80s-era design and Georgetown the area is "upscale" in a way that isn't of any interest or use to college kids - Brooklinen and Kendra Scott and J McLaughlin. Who cares?

Oof, I work for Georgetown and you left out “full of rats” at the end of beautiful enclosed campus. I have lived in DC for almost 30 years and I have never seen anything like the army of rats that patrol our campus. We won’t even wear open toed shoes to work in the summer.

When we were doing the college tours, Columbia is the one that struck me as the most dismal. The cigarette smoking was pretty striking. The school seemed really depressing.

i don't want to pile on Northwestern, but that too seemed like an unhappy school. And yes, Lake Michigan. Nice football practice facility. But the place felt cold.

We loved our Georgetown tour. Friendly, saw everything, parts were pretty & parts look like they are lived in by teenage boys and very relatable.

Students from New England boarding schools smoke. It’s just how it is. I feel like there’s so much actual important things to notice that this makes no sense to even bring up

Was it really the students smoking though? Last time I was in NY it seemed like every building had an old Asian guy outside puffing away.

Right. I went there. Tell me exactly what was disappointing. Oh Yeah, you're the mom who complained about brown grass in Harvard Yard not realizing the protesters had slept on it for months.

DP. My kid wants to study math and we went to what I believe was the math department, and it seemed like a crummy afterthought. Very unimpressive. Other buildings were much nicer.

I’m laughing at the Yale comment. 😅

Well it’s not exactly like Kline tower is an architectural marvel. Most math departments are put into decrepit buildings, since math majors really only need old blackboards and textbooks. A school where this is very obvious is UT: look at their math building then look at their engineering building. Night and day.

DP. Why is it unacceptable for someone to find Harvard underwhelming? I agree with some of the PPs. It felt very touristy and non campus-like. Also, growing up in VA, everything is colonial, so that era of architecture is just blah to me. Didn't hate it, just a little underwhelming.

Who was this directed to? Much of this thread and many like threads is everyone saying Harvard’s campus is underwhelming.

The defensive person who can't take it who posted several times to a couple people.

I'm a former smoker. But I think any 19 year old smoking cigarettes today is not well. And if that's what boarding students from New England at Columbia are about, it's reflective of a completely garbage culture. And that's generally my opinion of Columbia. They are the cigarette people.

DP. This is absolutely horrifying. Now I’m going to have nightmares!

I agree with this assessment. What a turnoff.

Davidson was a ghost town. We did pop in to the cafeteria at 6:00 and all the students looked so young. Felt like high school.

Northwestern was one long linear corridor.

Penn? Surprisingly lively and buzzing. Loved it.
