This thread is weird. On one hand they say that everyone is getting mass deported and on the other, they believe Trump isn't competent enough to deport anyone. Please clarify. Should we all be scared or not? Maybe you all need to consult the WaPo before responding? Or is that no longer the Oracle? |
Long term labor shortages do not happen naturally in market economies. That is not to say that they don't exist. They are created when employers or government agencies tamper with the natural functioning of the wage mechanism. "[To attract] workers, the employer may have to increase his wage offer. ... So when you hear an employer saying he needs immigrants to fill a "labor shortage'', remember what you are hearing: a cry for a labor subsidy to allow the employer to avoid the normal functioning of the labor market." -1990 Congressional Testimony of Dr. Michael S. Teitelbaum http://users.nber.org/~sewp/references/archive/weinsteinhowandwhygovernment.pdf |
Many different people are posting. As an immigrant (who voted for Harris) I really don't appreciate posts like that one stating legal immigrants are going to be deported. I'm seeing it on Facebook too, targeting Latino Trump voters. It is absolutely xenophobic and false. Deportations will not target US citizens. |
That’s funny. You don’t know what you’re dealing with. |
Why ask if you've already made up your mind based on no facts? |
What would work is fining business owners who employ illegals. |
Ok well some of my Latino friends who have been citizens for decades aren’t so sure. How will folks looking at you see your decades-long citizenship?? Are you going to carry your naturalization papers with you at all times? You see how this becomes a concern when you start gaming how these mass deportations will happen. |
Who are you exactly talking about? Trump lost more white female AND male votes this election, but gained a lot among Latinos. |
No, it's not an actual concern. Deportation is a difficult, long process. Anyone who is a citizen has proof of it. |
This is a guy who praised Hitler. He doesn’t use a lot of logic. |
It doesn't have to be |
I will be sitting on the edge of my seat for the next four years to see what kinds of policies Trump will put in place that will directly benefit Latinos. |
We are a family of immigrants. Brown US citizen husband, white PR wife. No fears whatsoever. |
Ok we shall see. We are listening to cries of “cut the federal workers” and “mass deportation”. These things are in conflict and won’t play out well. But cool you have faith in your fellow Americans. I don’t. |
Right but they big donors to political campaigns so that won’t happen. We have the I9 process for them. |
