“I’m a cultural Christian”, says Richard Dawkins

A: Not OP, but he's got a big mouth and is kinda hard to ignore.

Q: Where do you hear about him?

Embarrassed to admit that you read “Focus on the Family” newsletters?

We read OP’s link. That should be easy for you to understand. I doubt anyone here reads Focus on the Family.

Seems like OP does. And you, if you clicked on the link.

So you read a lot about him because some believer(s) are obsessed with him and frequently post about him on DCUM?

So what? Who cares? And I would never read FOTF.

This was reported in lots of other news outlets too.

If you think the actual reporting was wrong, show us why. Otherwise, your little inquisition into where all the participants in this thread learn about a well-known, public figure like Dawkins is more than a little bizarre and suggests you might be trying to derail from something (Dawkins’ statements about Christianity) that makes you uncomfortable.

OP cut and pasted the key parts, so nobody even had to click through to the dreaded Focus.

This derailment is so strange. Nobody is obsessed with Dawkins, but we know who he is and when he says something like that, yes, we listen. Why is this so surprising to you?

The real question is why OP and other believers are obsessed over him and post about him often.

He’s just some random dude. I DGAF what he says. Why do you?

There are multiple threads about him on the first page of the religion forum. Why are believers posting about him so often? They’re obsessed.

Because he’s well-known? Because he just said something surprising?

It’s called listening, and that doesn’t mean obsession. And to play devil’s advocate, suppose there actually is a poster here who “religiously” combs the daily media for Dawkins news (I doubt there is though)—what’s that to you? Who the heck cares?

Because it’s odd that religious people would care what he says.

Get a grip. There are two threads and a spinoff that’s not even about Dawkins, but about something that happened to be on one of those two Dawkins threads that an atheist said about believers.

And, you know, Dawkins just said something surprising. So maybe thread-worthy?

Why are you obsessed with claiming people are obsessed with Dawkins? You’ve derailed for pages on those two threads with your own obsession.

Why is it odd? I listen to what Trump says although I despise the man. It’s called following the news.

Except Dawkins isn’t really covered in the news. And he is just some random guy in another country, not the former POTUS/current GOP candidate.

I’m good. I just got back on.

Why can’t believers just share their true motivations and news sources? Embarrassed?
