Just read the posts above where pp claimed he said “Christianity is his choice for livable, moral, enjoyable society and culture.” Not what he said. Hence, lies from a liar. |
“I feel at home in the Christian ethos.”
Ethos is used to refer to the practices or values that distinguish one person, organization, or society from others. Ethos refers to the character, credibility, and moral values a group or individual possesses. |
Not OP or that PP. But here's what Dawkins said in OP's link: "I feel at home in the Christian ethos. I feel that we are a Christian country in that sense”. Dawkins also said, in the same link, that he'd choose Christianity: "If I had to choose between Christianity and Islam, I’d choose Christianity every single time. It seems to me to be a fundamentally decent religion in a way that I think Islam is not.” Please explain why that pp's quote is so outrageous, especially wrt the bolded bits, that you couldn't stop yourself from calling her a liar. TIA. |
PS, I don't agree with OP that Dawkins is going to convert. He's an atheist till he dies. But you seem really triggered that Dawkins even said nice things about Christianity, to the point where you're accusing a random internet stranger of lying, based on your own misreading of quotes from Dawkins. Maybe think about why you're so triggered, and maybe how you can roll with stuff like this next time. |
If you can’t see where the PP lied, then there is no hope for you and my argument is futile.
Saying “Christianity is his choice for livable, enjoyable, and moral society and culture” which he did NOT say and when it is decidedly NOT his choice for same, is a lie. Saying Christianity is better than Islam is a very different statement indeed. Saying “he wishes there were fewer Christians” is much more indicative of his positions. Again, if you do not see how those purposeful misrepresentations = lies, then there is no willingness to be reasonable and therefore no need to continue to discuss. |
“I feel at home in the Christian ethos.” -Richard Dawkins |
So basically, you're rhetorically bankrupt and you have nothing useful to say except repeatedly calling posters liars, hopeless, and unreasonable. Then you do a hairflip and announce you're not going to continue the conversation. Okay.... I'm not that pp, but it's obvious to me that you're splitting hairs, subjecting those hairs to dye and permanent waves, and then accusing people of not following you on that process. PP paraphrased Dawkins, so in the very strictest sense you're correct that he "never said" those exact same words. Yet the paraphrasing seems accurate. You're here quoting the part Dawkins about wishing there were fewer Christians, as if that were some kind of big gun. Yet you completely ignore that Dawkins said (as another poster here keeps repeating), “I sort of feel at home in the Christian ethos … We [Great Britain] are a ‘Christian country’ in that sense.” All of which is pretty dishonest on your part. |
No you are both full of it. Words matter. You are liars and that's the end of it. Anyone with an ounce of objectivity can see that.
If you didn't intend to be dishonest, you would have used the actual words the first time. But that wouldn't have fit your narrative, would it? I'm out. |
So you have no response besides insults. That's clear. Don't let the door slam behind you. |
This. |
So all of the people obsessed over Dawkins are hearing about him from “Focus on the Family”? Cuz he doesn’t get covered much in The Guardian or NYT for you to hear about him frequently on those. Unless you have other reasons for obsessing over this random guy… |
OP posted a link. It doesn’t get easier than that for the rest of us. |
Q: Still waiting to hear why OP and others care so much about this random, British guy who is an atheist.
A: Not OP, but he's got a big mouth and is kinda hard to ignore. Q: Where do you hear about him? A: … Embarrassed to admit that you read “Focus on the Family” newsletters? |
We read OP’s link. That should be easy for you to understand. I doubt anyone here reads Focus on the Family. |
Seems like OP does. And you, if you clicked on the link. So you read a lot about him because some believer(s) are obsessed with him and frequently post about him on DCUM? |
