Yes, would like to get back to the DC area. Worried about WM's rigor vs. VT (even though both are in state). Wants to have a more relaxed academic environment. |
Davidson without question. The econ program is superb. Congrats! |
What's their tolerance for future PE/IB fleece vest types? |
The UMD admit is in College Park |
Unless your son is really looking for a change from NYC, Richmond is a whole other world. I say this as a spouse of a UR Business grad. It's a really small school with a very tight and mostly local alumni base. Most of the kids from up north who come here, though, stay here (DH is a perfect Jersey transplant/example). We have four seasons, only two hours from DC/mtns/beach. Slower pace, much cheaper COL. There are a lot of reasons they don't return to the nest. Worth the train ride down to see for yourself. |
This seems to be the all-time most difficult choice, but even as a huge fan of the Midwest & Big 10 I think u should pick UGA. Better weather, better football. Prettier campus. Probably fewer New Yorkers. |
Daughter at UW, and considered UGA, loved both places and very similar feel/vibe aside from the weather. Business is a very tough admit at UW if not direct. Be prepared to have a 3.7+ while taking some required hard required pre-business courses. |
I've heard UVA is good for English and that it's not that easy/quick to qualify for CA in-state. You may not get it until DC is a junior even if you move right away. |
| Interesting reading these. So many posters are citing their child’s intended major as a large factor. Many of these kids will switch major before graduating. In most cases, I’d go with the best overall combo of financial fit and reputation and academic/social fit. |
Thank you for your advice! I do plan to visit Richmond during their admitted student tour in the middle of April. |
Nobody looks good in Brown. |
| Cornell makes the most sense for CS, right? Also considering Michigan and USC. |

Disagree. IU Kelley has way stronger recruitment over Pitt for business |
If a change of pace/location is important, pick UMiami over Fordham. Richmond is far behind the other options. |
