University of Miami Herbert Finance University of Richmond Business Fordham Gabelli Finance Live in New York Metropolitan Area
Hmm tough if going to be in NYC after grad. Miami is up and coming but would do Fordham for alumni connections.
Totally agree with you. I do feel Fordham is not ranked well recently. Personally I prefer to Richmond, but I just do not know which is better regarded in the business world between Richmond and Miami. I immigrated to US about 10 year ago, and this is my only son which will go to college this year. I do not know much about colleges in the US.
Does your child speak Spanish or have any ties to Latin American culture? That is definitely a big part of Miami if he wishes to stay in that area after graduation. Fordham Gabelli is well-regarded and has name recognition, plus NYC business ties are invaluable. Richmond is a much smaller city (and has some Southern culture to it) so just a very different feel from NYC or Miami. But, it’s not a bad place to go to college!
Unless your son is really looking for a change from NYC, Richmond is a whole other world. I say this as a spouse of a UR Business grad. It's a really small school with a very tight and mostly local alumni base. Most of the kids from up north who come here, though, stay here (DH is a perfect Jersey transplant/example). We have four seasons, only two hours from DC/mtns/beach. Slower pace, much cheaper COL. There are a lot of reasons they don't return to the nest. Worth the train ride down to see for yourself.
Thank you for your advice! I do plan to visit Richmond during their admitted student tour in the middle of April.
