Virtual?

OK then. Snow is supposed to start falling at around 5am. 1 inch was announced yesterday, but now it's looking more like 2, which is the threshold where MCPS starts getting antsy. When the snow falls, it will be a few degree below freezing, so it will probably stick, but then again, the county has had plenty of notice, so it can salt everywhere if it has the salt and the plows... which maybe it doesn't (we're not resourced in this region).

So... another closure?

Read above. It's already been announced at schools there won't be one. If there's inclement weather, it'll be a normal 2 hour delay and/or snow day. Maybe read before posting next time.

They should be prepared to make up the day then on 1/29

That it would be the ideal solution and extend the quarter to that day. It will never happen though.

Don't teachers have to get the day for grading and planning at some point though?

If not, which of the days will they add?

They should make 1/29 an early release day so that it counts as a school day and teachers still get 2.5 hours to submit grades/plan.

If they had to close yesterday, it's pretty hard to see how they could get their act together for tomorrow. A competent district could open if the weather is as forecast, but we obviously don't have a competent district.

Or a full day so kids can actually learn something.

This actually makes sense though, so you know MCPS won't go for it.

There has been one day of school. My kid has been at home trying to learn what is being taught at school. Can’t teachers also use this time productively?

Lol...as a parent volunteer, what do you think actually happens all day? Teachers are usually too busy dealing with behavior problems to actually get much work done. Parents need to do a better job of raising kids who care about school and know how to act in public and a school setting.

There isn't going to be a virtual day tomorrow. It's been confirmed. They probably aren't sending out notices to parents. Only people in buildings really need to know this info.

Stop pretending you're the boss of teacher's and how they should be using their time. If they were given instructions to do so, then yes. But again, you are not in charge so stay in your lane.

DP. Of course, parents are not teachers' bosses and should respect that boundary. At the same time, surely you see the irony of saying teachers need an extra day for planning if they end up having 3 snow days this week. It's certainly not parents' role to tell teachers how to use their time, but it is most assuredly not a good look for the school system.
