What about UMiami?

I went to Vandy. Good school but no Harvard. This post thread btw is pointless.

Northeastern is more selective than all of these schools yet you won't catch their grads on wall street. Trust me I know. I see more Emory and Duke grads here than Vandy grads. I've never met a Rice, Tufts, Northeastern, grad on Wall Street. Most of you don't even have prestigious enough jobs to be worried about this any way.

I work in finance; PE.

Yes we see a lot of Rice. Started seeing Vandy last year, but agree it’s a lot less than Duke.

I work in IB so maybe Rice placement in PE is a bit better, but for IB it's Duke then Emory, then UNC/Vandy for southern schools.

I imagine the PE firms that are tech centric, Rice might have better placement there but for more traditional firms Vandy, Emory ,Duke are much better.

Is there a difference in number of students? Is one school heavier towards pre-med or engineering etc? Is one school in a city with lots of jobs vs others who do to other towns? There could be many reasons. Any school this selective gotta have grads who'll do well in workplaces, no matter what.

Doesn’t really mean anything. Like cities, each school has their own pros and cons. Best choice is best fit…

Pathetic and classic DCUM.

In California, you'd be hard pressed to find people who think Duke is better than Cal or UCLA and they wouldn't see it as a peer of Stanford or top ivies either. It is kind of like a private UCLA: a great school with great basketball tradition!

And people on the east coast don't think all that highly of UCLA.

Which is fair. And I find to be true. The East Coast, the South, and the Midwest don't really think about UCLA. And most people in California don't think at all about Michigan, UNC, or Virginia.

They are generally regional schools. Maybe Berkeley still has the name. But they hardly admit anyone from OOS except a few full pay folks. So that will change over time.

For schools with national appeal, it will always be the privates, including some of the southern schools like Duke, Vanderbilt, and Rice. Comparing them to Harvard or whatever is a fairly pointless conversation. Harvard is Harvard but it's not great at everything. Most engineering students would take Rice then Duke then Vanderbilt before Harvard.

Don't think Emory, much less Tulane, are part of the same conversation.

I'm pretty sure this statement is wrong: "Most engineering students would take Rice then Duke then Vanderbilt before Harvard." Do you have any data that supports the assertion?
Rice is the least national of those schools name wise (yes, below Emory). It is a great target school now since it still flies under the radar and some people continue to be anti-Texas. The old Rice alums are a totally different breed compared to the others too. A fair number of solid and old fashioned Texas oil men.

Ummm Rice and target.....

Some schools you think would place well in Investment banking don't, Rice is one of them. Carnegie Mellon is another. Both of these schools have a lot in common.

Rice is only ranked high because of its size, that allows is to maintain selectivity and small class sizes.

It’s Duke. Period.

Tbh Duke likely doesn't care about being anything other than Duke, it's a phenomenal institution in its own right. That being said, it's far and away the best school in the South. It actually makes me think OP is a troll when if there is an answer, it would obviously be Duke

None OP. Hick.

It’s Duke. Sorry to say. But 4% acceptance rate makes it the closest.

people on West Coast don't think very highly of Rice, Emory, or Vanderbilt.
