I'm outraged for the victims, but none of these will work. The only thing that would affect your personal safety is to leave DC. |
| Perhaps the primary problem with DC is no state level government to at least provide a moderating balance, even if it is still a left-leaning one. We see this even in places like NY, whereas DC is just one crazy city and that's it. Congress may be the only solution. |
| The only purpose of DC is to serve as a seat of government. Talk of DC culture or local community is ancillary. If DC is unable to serve as a seat of government then the federal government needs to step in and administer the city directly. DC is no more entitled to democratic self rule than a large army base. |

Remember when there was a movement called defund the police, which made clear that the goal was to defund the police. And all sorts of SJWs tried to tell us that the goal wasn't actually to defund the police, but just more accountability or something like that. But in fact, the goal was to defund the police -- make it so that police work was useless and criminals could do whatever they want and not be punished.
Kind of hilarious that they didn't hide the goal at all, and SJWs supported it. The criminals won -- they changed the dialogue so that criminals should not be punished and should be able to commit whatever crimes they want. It's amazing that in such an educated city, people are this gullible. Next time, they should just call it, "We Love Criminals not Victims," and people would still support it. We'd probably hear from the gullible SJWs about how that just means that criminals are misunderstood and need to be supported, not that we actually value criminals more than victims. |
Absolutely! Another layer of ineffective government will finally solve DC's problems. |
I'm still convinced the whole thing was some bot farm chaos-agenting crap. The left is tragically easy to manipulate. Tell them if they don't believe something they're racist and they'll dance to whatever tune you like. |
It's depressing how this country has lost its practical sense; now we leap from one extreme to another. "Defund the police" was a terrible reaction to a real problem - black men were repeatedly being shot by police during non-violent interactions. The core idea was logical - when possible, de-escalate situations by bringing in social workers to address mental health crises, rather than armed police. But of course the left took the concept too far with the "defund" rhetoric. And then the right has reacted and made political hay. And all the sensible ideas in the middle ground are completely forgotten. This will be a classic example of how 21st century America forgot how to solve problems. |
How has this happened at all in DC? All I've seen is more murders while violent crime is down elsewhere and almost 1K carjackings. Political hay....lmao. |

Hope they ALL support it and that key provisions are not removed.
Wonder how Frumin plans to vote? Votes for Pinto's June Emergency Bill were all yeses I believe but for JLG. Frumin waffled and rambled, but, ultimately supported, as did Nadeau, Allen, Mendo, etc. So, shaping up the same way, fingers crossed. I remember "Defund the Police" - but it didn't actually amount to much in terms of budget or policy. It mostly just made some cops think they shouldn't have to do their jobs anymore. |
It meant a ton in terms of policy locally. Maybe you don’t pay attention to local news and politics, but many of us do. |
I don't know that this is true. I would amend that to say that people in the middle always thought 'defund extremism' was dumb, and now moderate progressives are seeing the daily threat to their safety and peace of mind and realizing it as well. Is that political hay? I don't really think so. I'd call it a cross-aisle meeting of minds. |
