Open house attire/conspicuous consumption

Lol seriously? I’d be surprised if these people are buying fakes. Especially knowingly…

I love buying high end fakes. As other PPs have said, the costs are stupid (even for people who can easily afford them) but I still like how they look.

I had an 18k VCA fake made for me. It has all the proper engravings. Love it.

I feel you on this. Nice clothes = 1 minute. Then sleeked back hair and im done. You i like.

Ballet flats are in.

I’ve always volunteered at my DC’s open house/admissions events - fascinating exercise in the human condition and posturing.

I hate to generalize but often times (not every time) the logo-NASCAR outfits (aka I’m going to wear every piece of branded luxury item I have) align with cold, standoffish behavior towards a fellow parent (me) or the administrator both of whom are just trying to be of help, tour them around a school and have pleasant conversation.

Which I always think is a weird play when you’re trying to get your child into a highly competitive school but ok

You do you! I think it’s pretty gauche

This is absolutely true. My husband and I couldn't believe how healthy everyone (parents and children) looked. It was refreshing.

Is this a joke?

Supporting criminals and child labor, and endangering health and safety by buying products with toxic chemicals and metals.

You sound like a piece of work.

I had the same thought reading OP. Neither VCA jewelry nor Cartier Love bracelets have logos written on them. You have to know what to look for... and then, apparently, get upset about finding it?

For $70 you can get a decent knock off at walmart.

NP but these are very easy to spot. You don’t need to know very much at all to spot these since they have giant logos or have been around for years at this point. They are gauche but to each their own.

OK carry on.

I don't take any advice from someone who cannot spell "heel" correctly, yet claims to be fashion-obsessed.

Good point. I was really coming here to relax and cruise through posts in between college applications and Israel/Gaza. Sorry for the careless spelling. But I stand behind the fashion!

They are popular for a reason. People like them and they’re beautiful.

Quite frankly, I love a great Cartier stack. I also love my Goyard bag, and to be honest, nice shoes, too. Sorry not sorry.

Even I know this--49 year old mom who follows a dozen or so influencers on Instagram.

Chanel belly flats are absolutely in style. This is why people are seeing them at open houses at the high-end schools. The people attending have money.

Many of the other moms are wearing conspicuous designer items. I’ve seen more Chanel flats, Gucci bags, Van Cleef bracelets/necklaces, Hermes belts, and Cartier love bracelets in the past few weeks than I’ve ever seen in my life.

Is this typical for these types of parents, or are they just dressing like this for the open houses to signal wealth and status?

I would get used to this if you are going private. Keep in mind a Cartier love bangle is literally attached to one’s wrist. You need a special screwdriver to take it off! Also, “love bangle stacks” are very common and popular at local area privates.

I don't know why this feels kind of icky to me, but I also have mild claustrophobia

You get used to it. They are quite comfortable. I do think Cartier has a version that you can take on and off with ease.

literally, Chanel flats are back in and trending.

How would you know what brand they are?

- private school Mom who doesn't recognize half of what PP posted

They have the Chanel logo on the toe.

Many wealthy people are anti logo.

Prof sports players and SOs love logos tho. Go to private school in Miami and check it out!

The Chanel logo one the ballet flats is pretty inconspicuous. You would have to be looking for it. It is embossed on the toe, so it doesn’t really stand out.

Chanel ballet flats are so beautiful, let’s just all admit it. There’s nothing wrong with liking something designer.
