Open house attire/conspicuous consumption

My kids go to private school. Pretty sure I wore one of two pendant necklaces from Macy's, both of which were under $100, to the open houses. I don't think anyone could have told what brand any article of my clothing was, or my purse.

Yes there are a lot of basic moms in private schools, they have money so they wear basic things.

You'll see a lot of flash and bling among the parent body at certain schools, and not much at others. The best thing is to pay attention to what most current parents are wearing. You won't get a feel for the school community by looking at the open-house attendees.

Hah! and we actually own a Bentley! OP is trying to create problems. I have NEVER in all my years of private school matters in DCUM seen moms compete like that. OK, maybe one mom at langley public school but that doesn't count

Op here. I swear this is a real question and I’m not trying to stir the pot! This week, I saw multiple moms wearing $10k+ worth of accessories. Think Chanel shoes + Gucci bag + identifiable designer jewelry, all on the same person.

For what it’s worth, DH and I went to private school (not in DC). I went to an Ivy. Our HHI is seven figures. We have some friends who are extremely high net worth. It’s not like I’ve never met a wealthy person. But I’ve never seen people dress like this.
