It doesn't say that he is employed by Google.

I wonder if the grapevine mixed up the kid and his father, who does work at Google.

I know they're both T20 schools for CS.

Bummer that he will miss out on a college experience. I work in big tech and really enjoy it but I wouldn't recommend skipping college either long-term career or social development wise.
His experience shows how competitive admissions are when you go to a top school too. Gunn and Paly are VERY competitive places with a lot of connected Google, Apple, Meta, and Stanford kids. Thankfully they haven't had the suicide issues in the same numbers recently that plagued the schools in the past. It was sad to see them put crossing guards at all train crossings in Palo Alto when I lived there primarily because of the young adult mental health problems.

Shouldn't he have followed Sergey to Maryland?!
I'm going out on a limb to predict he will be less successful financially than that other Maryland admit and Googler!

The vast majority of people will be and are less successful financially than that other MD admit and Googler.

Love the term "vast majority"...I think what you meant to say is that there are maybe 20 other people on the planet more successful...but I guess if you include the future, then maybe there will be 50 other people some day.

well, yea, I don't know the exact number, but it's obviously a VAST majority of people have not and will not ever reach that level of success.

Please, if he was a URM, he would have gotten into every one of those schools. His application is so ridiculous that it may be worth his time to sue and let those schools explain why he is less qualified for admission than their URM admits
Why are people discussing race since MIT is overwhelmingly Asian and the UC schools don't even consider race. Agree with other posters that something else was going on, but also that he doesn't need college and will be fine.

You are right. Berkeley and pretty much all the UC’s don’t really care about race that much. There is something else going on.

Maybe colleges were confused as to whether he was applying as a student or as a candidate for a professorship.

That makes no sense. I assume he submitted the Common App like every other student. Maybe his essays weren't perfect but this is a great example of the flaws in the admission process.

LOL ! You have no sense of humor.

I'm starting to wonder if the people who operate the Common App screwed up somewhere? With all of the less qualified kids getting in (even other Asian boys interested in CS) it seems like they should be asked to show their hand?

who the heck knows these days. I know a kid who had great stats, work experience in CS, but got rejected at those T10 schools, too.
