Hired by Google as L4 but rejected by top colleges

All with super low SAT scores. I can't quite figure out how they managed to get in... maybe the letters of recommendation?

You realize who George Bush and Al Gore’s parents were, right?

Penalty for being Asian american?

Even Stanley‘s father acknowledges that there’s not enough facts to determine racism. In the article he claims that universities are turning down over qualified students, and he wants to know why.

With Supreme Court striking down race-conscious admissions programs, one would expect universities to comply immediately. I guess its going to take a passel of lawsuits to get those behind the curtain racial balancing manipulation exposed. Transparency cant be expected, it needs to be required by law.

Stanley applied to colleges before the Supreme Court decision. This is the admissions season that they have to start complying. There’s no evidence for lawsuits yet— you’re putting the cart before the horse.

Because (1) the schools get tons of applicants who are qualified and (2) over qualified applicants don’t exist. It’s not a race to the top.

He got dinged from two UCs and CalPoly which don’t know his name or race when reviewing applications.

He has either horrible recommendations, didn’t even bother trying with his essays, or has a major disciplinary record in HS. There’s something else with his case that he isn’t revealing in public interviews. The declines to the public California schools bear this out.

Al Gore had a 1355; that was an above average SAT score at Harvard at the time; probably top 2% for college bound seniors. They’ve re-centered twice, so a 1350 from back then would be equivalent to a 1500 nowadays. George W Bush got a 1206, which is probably about a 1350 now. No verified score for Clinton.

Not sure a 1350 and a 1500 equivalent would qualify for “super low”. From SAT scores alone Gore was probably qualified for Harvard. W wasn’t qualified for Yale.

But they know the HS is heavily Asian. The CA schools discriminate based on HS now as a proxy for race.

Someone else posted a link to his high school's college acceptances page. They killed it. Gunn sent kids to all the big schools. And not jut a few. A whole, whole lot.

Please explain why his peers who are predominantly Asian at the same high school did really well based on published info?

DP, but of course he wouldn’t claim it publicly without concrete evidence (yet). But it’s more than likely the case.

The only evidence that would support their claim is if a college used racial quotas-- otherwise, they would have to prove that Stanley was singled out amongst his Asian peers at his high school.

It’s not that hard to do. Just compare a student from the same high school but of a different race. If that student got into a UC but with less impressive credentials(whatever UC defines), we’ll have a conversation of racial discrimination.

Isn't that school 60% Asian? You are going to try to compare him to everyone else in his class except the other Asians???

That’s two presidents of the United States and one vice president. Are you suggesting they made a mistake letting them in? Or that they shouldn’t have? And the given the slot to somebody with a higher SAT score instead?

If that’s what you think that you don’t get elite college admissions at all and probably never will.

60% Asians means 40% non-Asians. That’s still a lot of people to compare to, isn’t it? We’ll see if it’s really race blind like UC claimed.
