But this relationship and Matty seem kind of unhinged… like 0 to 100 in a matter of weeks. The enthusiasm at games, the loathing “I love you” at the concerts. It’s like she wants to be in a serious relationship but doesn’t want to wait for it. So it comes off as kind of weird, like love bombing or desperation.

She’s Taylor swift. She can be whatever she wants… but her relationships seem super weird, her enthusiasm seems forced and awkward, and in a total 180 from her relationship with Joe, she seems to actively be seeking attention.

I think she feels a little freer now, so she just having fun. Joe was so low key she was repressing her fun self for him because he wanted to be very private.

I don’t think her having fun at football games with friends is her being totally serious about Kelce, I think she’s just having fun at football games. That’s what I would do at a football game.

I don’t know- she looks kind of manic to me. But I’m not a football person. And I didn’t realize she was either I guess? That’s what weird. Also bringing a bunch of friends, hugging Travis’ mom… it’s all weird. It’s like when she was 21 and bought a house in cape cod because she was dating a 19 year old kennedy grandchild. There is an intensity about her where she gets swept up in romances very quickly, and it doesn’t seem like a stable pattern.

But isn't that the reason she has so many fans? She writes the music and tells the stories her fans are afraid to actually live. So they live vicariously through her, and can "safely" experience what she actually experiences.

Yeah. It makes for good music. But normally people have 1-2 experiences like that. When it becomes a pattern, and you’re in your mid thirties, generally it seems kind of unhealthy.

+100 Doing dumb impulsive stuff in the grips of new love in your early 20s is relatable and even somewhat endearing. In your mid-thirthies, it's a little pathetic. It will be so interesting to see if/when she pivots her public persona to something else (regardless of whether she gets married or has kids).

Watching your new guy play in a football game is not weird. Meeting and being friendly with his mom also is not weird. What’s weird is all the attention it’s getting. Did you see the people waiting to catch a glimpse of her as she left her house? No one should have to put up with that.

She's not "putting up" with anything - she actively cultivates and invites this level of attention, and it's made her a multimillionaire.

I disagree. She wants fans but probably doesn’t enjoy people gathered outside her front door. Same with most other celebrities. It’s a consequence of her profession and she manages well but that doesn’t mean she invites people to stand outside her home. Out in public is different.

What other celebrity cultivates these parasocial relationships with fans the way she does, though? I can't think of any.

The clip was worse than I expected.

It's very awkward. I know fans and the NFL are just delighted by all of this, but I can't imagine being enthusiastic about a relationship like this if it was your son or daughter. No rational parent hopes their child has an extremely high profile romance with paparazzi everywhere and branding opportunities and a massive circus around everything they do. Even if your child is an adult who is a famous football player, you are hoping they find love and commitment and stability. Not whatever this is.

No rational parent hopes their child ends up in the NFL playing a deadly sport, either

Look, I wouldn't encourage my kid to play football, but the NFL is not deadly. The percent of players who have ever died playing the support is probably lower than a ton of other professions, including law and finance as well as physically dangerous professions like construction and deep sea fishing. LOTS of parents hope their kids wind up playing in the NFL and you know it.

But dating Taylor Swift sucks and most people recognize that. Mostly not her fault, but it is what it is.

Does it though? I can't even name that guy she was engaged to and was in a long term relationship with. They seemed to live a pretty low profile life in NYC. You rarely saw him photographed with her and she seems to be able to go out in NYC with her squad and people seem to leave her alone other than some photos of her coming and going, etc. which most celebrities get anyway. I think this relationship in particular is a bit of a circus because of her high profile attendance at the games. If she did indeed celebrate his bday with him in KC, so far no one has picked up on that. They were able to keep it on the DL.

It’s the NFL and NBC that made it a circus. They’re supposed to cover football, not WAGs. She should be able to attend a game like any other celebrity.

I don't find her behavior hard to understand. She is acting at Travis' games in the same fun, supportive way that she would like her guy to be when he comes to support her at her concerts. She is trying to walk the walk. This doesn't mean they're in love or anything, she's just trying to show support.

Her cheering and bringing friends isn't weird to me. The cheering and dancing is something she does at awards shows when someone else is performing - again, to show support, its nbd. At least to her. Don't make it into some thing just because she's 30 something. Thirty+ year olds can still cheer. (See, also, 40 year olds can cheer; 50 year olds can cheer; 60 year olds can cheer; 70 year olds can cheer.)

She is trying different things. It's hard to be a top female performer and have press attention but also a relationship. Many don't manage it. Lots of women just haven't; the scrutiny is hard on the relationship. Whatever works, man.

He’s in a bunch of commercials hosted SNL and hosts huge charity events. He likes the fanfare, he is probably pleased as punch she’s at all his games cheering.

DP. They don’t die while playing…they die years later from CTE.

she doesn;t need to raise her profile, she is known around the world. He is the only one who benefits.

The NFL is pressuring networks to play ads for her concert film for free. That’s how she benefits.

Why is it puzzling? She’s been dating in the public eye for like 17 years; the number of relationships seems normal considering most were short flings when she was young.

She probably wants to get married but dating Taylor Swift must be difficult. Any man would have to give up living a normal, private life. Kind of like dating Will or Harry during their prime. It’s unappealing to most people.

DP. Has she honestly ever said she wants to get married?

No, Taylor made it a circus. There is a way to show up to a game and go out with a player afterwards that does not garner this level of attention. She did it in the showiest, most attention grabbing way possible. A lot of celebs attend sporting events and date other high profile people without drawing this much attention, even when people are desperate to see it. Like even Jessica Simpson and Olivia Munn were more discrete, and it's not like those are women known for shying from the spotlight.

Had Taylor attended a game or two and been more chill during the game (which shouldn't be hard given that there is zero evidence she has ever cared about a football game before) and then gone out with Travis afterwards in a less showy way (meet up outside in black SUV, instead of doing a showy walk through he stadium and hopping in an open top convertible to cruise KC), I actually think the attention would be much, much less.

She created a circus by bouncing around the suite like a cheerleader, hugging his mom on camera, trotting around the stadium with Travis wearing some goofy attention-getting outfit, riding around in his convertible, etc. Then she showed up to the next game in NY with an entourage of famous people, again acting extremely showy and over the top through the whole game. Most people, not even most celebs, act this way. There is a way to be discrete and get people to leave you alone, at least to a degree, and Taylor is doing the opposite. She is not behaving like someone who values her privacy or wants people to leave her and her new BF alone -- they are actively courting the attention. It's not a surprise the NFL or NBC decided to exploit it -- those are corporate money-making entities.

It’s implied in some songs but the wealthier she becomes, the less marrying makes sense. She needs to find her Stedman.

Anyway, I think Travis and Taylor are over.

How do you know those other celebs were discrete? Were you at the stadium watching their reactions to big plays or is it because the network broadcasting the game didn’t show them as often? Perhaps they only appeared discrete to you because the NFL and the network didn’t cut to them 15+ times per game or use them to promote SNF.

Please take your misogynistic portrayal of women as seen and not heard and quiet is feminine out the door. She snuck through the back, cheered when everyone did and left. Thank God she really doesn’t care what people like this think and now she is just being herself. She looks genuinely happy and everyone can tell.
