Does this Taylor Swift fling with the NFL football brute seem super fake?

The man has style and is into high end fashion. He has an aura and character. He is tall, makes millions of dollars, dresses well, and is fit. What more do you want? Good grief.

It's a major, and profitable marketing demographic and professional sports teams are finally realizing it.

She's done this before with Tom Hiddleston. Also, similarly, he was a guy with his star on the rise and despite it being as fake as fake can be, Hiddleston's "relationship" with Swift exposed him to a broader audience, including more women in the US. It coincided with his lead role in the Night Manager, and I think the goal was to get audiences to see him as more of a leading man, instead of the baddie/comic relief that he plays as Loki in the Avenger movies (notably, Hiddleston auditioned for the role of Thor but got cast as Loki, he's been trying to break into the leading man game for awhile).

Anyway, Swift and Hiddleston "dated" for 3 months in the summer of 2016 and literally every week they'd release new photos of them doing something together -- hanging with her famous friends at the beach, him meeting her parents, the two of them on vacation in Italy looking like they were wearing costumes from the Marvelous Mr. Ripley.

This round was obviously scheduled to coincide with the football season. Expect to see her attending games in various cities, some kind of special date/vacation together during his buy week, etc. Then they'll start to "drift apart" around Christmas and by the playoffs she'll be wishing him the best but "focusing on her next album" while he gears up for another SB run.

I haven't quite figured out what Swift gets out of it. Maybe she really is gay and trying to cover it up, which I would find weirdly regressive for her and not necessary. Maybe she is truly trying to find a life partner and this is part of a years long effort by her team to set her up with various eligible bachelors and see if one of them sticks. But the extremely public nature of these relationships and the very obviously staged photo ops really speaks to it being fake and for PR. I just don't quite get her angle. Maybe she's just messing with people. Maybe she knows that the higher profile her exes, the more interest it creates in her next break up album. I don't know.

Swift is clearly comfortable in the public eye and doesn’t hide away (except during Rep). I think we get photos of her with men when the guy she’s dating is also comfortable being in public.

Women are not going to watch football ( for the football) solely because of Taylor Swift.

This fake crap has been telegraphed for months with various “viral” clips of macho NFL players at her concerts. It’s cool and okay for men to listen to her catalog! She’s targeting the football demo. Tens of millions of men—over 30 million Americans have a fantasy football team. This cohort swings general elections, which I’m assuming is the real motive here.

Yep! This is why you have so many football teams talking about their fave TS songs. Do we really think that was not planned?!

The teams were asked about favorite songs because Swift’s tour was in town. I doubt she’s been working with the NFL. She sold out a stadium tour without their help.

Either way, this appears to be a calculated move to keep attention and get money. Get attached to a dude with millions of fans, appear at an event being watched by millions between your own shows, etc.

I still think there's a connection. TS played stadiums. Who uses the stadiums the most? Football teams. Lots of cross promo opportunities. If she isn't being paid directly, she's still able to earn money from her appearance at the game by getting NFL daddies to buy tix to her movie for their kids.

And she previously said her relationships were not up for discussion and kept them mostly under wraps. But now she changed her mind?

She is only seen when she wants to be seen. She has security that can make sure of that. Like, we never see her in Utah, do we? But her plane flies there.

She's in control of her story and she's brilliant or has brilliant people working for her.

Again, it's the opposite. The relationship benefits him, not her.

He is trying to break into entertainment from his football career. He has a podcast with his brother, had a short-lived reality program, and hosted SNL last year after winning the SuperBowl. He is looking towards the end of his football career and trying to lift his profile for a career in acting, realty TV, maybe broadcasting or similar. But for that he needs a fan base beyond Chiefs fans and fantasy football people. He's not a QB and that can make leap from football to entertainment more difficult.

I don't really get what's in it for her. I don't think she needs the exposure.

Armed with this knowledge alone, why on earth would anyone think that she needs more publicity? I think she's good.

And while Travis Kelce is likeable, he's not bringing any more press than she's already got. I mean, TS could date a Starbucks barista and get just as much press as she's getting now.

Many of her collabs appear geared toward getting her in front of new audiences. She is aiming for world domination here.

Just look at who she has collaborated with in music alone, and you'll see what demographics she is aiming for. The list is long. This is planned far in advance.

She will be smart not to get tied down in a relationship. Once you have to keep a relationship going, it's not as interesting to fans.

I think some young women might develop an interest in football because of Taylor Swift. This is a woman who successfully got a lot of people to by Taylor Swift branded cardigans because she wore one in a video.

But more importantly, I think some women will develop an interest in Travis Kelce because he's dating Taylor Swift, and if you are Travis Kelce, that's extremely useful.

You are bummed two clearly heterosexual women don't want to have s&x with each other and instead have a supportive friendship? I don't understand people who seem to want her to be gay when she very clearly is not. And I have no problems with gay people but like, people can be heterosexual! At this point she has dated like 15 men sequentially and written song after song about her heartbreaks, stop trying to make gaylor happen and let her be!

I don’t think only gay people date those of the same sex. Sexuality can also be fluid.

You need to calm down.

This. I'm not sure what she sees in him. She needs a boyfriend who isn't famous.

If she was aiming for world domination she would be pretend dating a member of BTS not a football player. She has America in her pocket. You guys really I feel like do not understand the world around you.

The timing is one of the major reasons it looks fake. Why would a football player start a new relationship with an extremely high profile woman (who is currently in the middle of a world tour) in Week 3 of the football season? That doesn't make any sense at all, unless you consider that doing it during the season will mean that their interactions are more public. Why would they want their relationship to be especially public? If they were really into each other, why wouldn't they initiate their relationship in the most showy, public way possible, essentially having their first date on national television and in the middle of the media frenzy that is an NFL game?

These are not the decisions of people who are just attracted to each other and trying to see where it goes. These are choices made by publicists in order to garner as many eyeballs as possible and stoke interest in both of them.

Sexuality can be fluid, but sometimes it isn't. I just think its bizarre to be disappointed in her that she continually dates men. There is a ridiculously large population convinced she is married to Karlie Kloss in secret. It's just weird.

Are you really arguing that NFL dads were refusing to take their swiftie daughters to the Eras movie but have now changed their minds because Taylor had one date with Kelce? Truly bizarre.

Taylor is seen in public all the time. I would guess there aren’t many photos of her in Utah simply because there are fewer paps in the country than NYC.

Style? No. He’s so corny, tacky, and tries way too hard. Typical Midwest try-hard dork.

Her tour movie comes out in October 2023. $20 per ticket and she gets half the points. Biggest ever payday for her if it’s successful. Plus this brute is old in football years so CAA is setting him up for podcasts and movies. Probably hope he becomes a Joe Rogan and/or The Rock.

Kelce is a popular NFL player. I don’t think he needs her to successfully transition to the entertainment industry. I actually think the label of “Taylor Swift’s boyfriend” can hurt more than help.

You are so wrong. He's into super high end fashion.

He's in public all the time and has his photos all the time. Over course over the years he has good outfits and bad outfits, and what he wears after the game is more about joking in the media than anything.

He's been known for years for his fashion.
