Did you work on the Empower page? It’s great. I’d love to see a breakdown by grade. Any chance that’s coming? For schools with very different 5th grade populations, the grade by grade data can sometimes paint a different picture (and sometimes not, of course).

Well, Langley does have an improvement relative to last year, which is something. Some schools don't show improvement at all.

What are the numbers?

Well, I'm not really sure my analysis is accurate, but I think it's like this: Last year at Langley, almost 7% got a 4 or 5 in math, and 10% a 4 or 5 in ELA. This year, almost 10% got a 4 or 5 in math and 17% got a 4 or 5 in ELA. So I think those are statistically significant increases... not sure. It's hard with schools with such small testing populations, the numbers can jump around.

If I'm looking correct the "all grades/races" numbers are 13% for ELA and 9% for Math

Looking at Mundo Verde (both campuses) and Two Rivers (both).... they are totally underperforming if you sort by "at risk". Have either schools sent out messaging today?

(I'll save my diatribe on achievement gap for the morning when basically every "fancy" school in the district has a problem. A huge one.)

I haven't done the subgroups, but it looks like a couple of the new charters, including Sojourner Truth are tracking Jackson-Reed levels. The empower dashboard is much easier to navigate, but probably is missing a lot of the subtext (that people on DCUM love to add)

This is high school? Why is DCI so bad?

There's a lot more than meets the eye with high school math PARCC scores. Analyze with caution.

When there's room on the margins maybe. But those scores just empirically stink.

Well, yes, they aren't very good. But for the higher-performing high schools, so many students have progressed beyond Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry, that it just isn't that helpful a data set. If School A were crushing School B in pre-calc or Calc A/B or whatever, wouldn't you want to include that in your analysis? But we just don't have that.

I don't pretend to understand the math/algebra/geometry PARCC data. And lord knows OSSE seems to have made it even harder to grasp WTF is all means with this year's data dump. But your explanation doesn't track. If that was the reason for low test scores then it should similarly impact all other schools. I mean, I assume you aren't suggesting that DCI's students are more advanced than BASIS, Walls and Banneker?

If we ignore numbers for 10th and higher (see earlier post), then DCI A1 looks about similar to J-R (19% - 16%). The number of 9th graders taking A2 or Geo PARCC is in the single digits for DCI. Latin is <10% for A1 and not indicated for Geo/A2.

NP who hasn’t read the entire thread but does anyone know how DCI decides when kids take each PARCC test (algebra 1, Geometry) because their curriculum is not the typical US curriculum with discrete math classes. It’s integrated math so they learn some algebra and geometry each year. Not one in 9th, one in 10th, etc. The PARCC does not align to that curriculum.

PARCC is a horrible test which is why NO other state currently uses it. DC knows they should go away from PARCC however instead of creating their own assessment like VA or MD or using Smarter Balance or another test like many other states do, they have decided to continue to use PARCC but rename it to another test. This data can be analyzed in hundreds of different ways (demographic, individual class performance, etc) but here is an average of ELA scores for each school. I only listed the top 60 or so but there is over 220 in this data set that I pulled. Additionally, this data should have been thoroughly cleaned and presented in a much more user-friendly way before release.

Are you looking at all tests or just PARCC? I excluded MSAA.
