We'd be far better off having real professionals with real degrees who are hired competitively into Board-like roles to represent each district. This would also remove bias and conflict of interest as each representative would likely be independent instead of having hidden agendas for their children's pyramids.

I remember when the SB wasn’t an elected position and so many people were thankful that it was changing to an elected one.

That was decades ago and whatever hopes people had that elected members would turn out to be an improvement have long since been dashed. You could not come up with a worse group of people than the current members - and the way in which they are going about increasing their own salaries is just more evidence of this. They stick kids in trailers and want to be paid more than many full-time employees. They are disgusting.

“They stick kids in trailers.”

No, Fairfax County residents do that when they vote against taxes (meals tax anyone?). The construction budget isn’t nearly enough to fix the facility problem, and redistricting is the only thing that makes residents more unhappy than taxes.

We are being taxed to death in the country. You can’t raise my personal
Property taxes double digits every year and expect me to vote for an additional
Meals tax on top.

So let me guess. You expect that only you should be getting ahead and improving your quality of life at the cost of others? Taxes pay for everyone else in civil service roles from local to state to federal. Saying no to taxes means you want to get richer while others, specifically teachers, get poorer.

It means you want less services. Less government control. There are loads of people in this country that pay no taxes at all. They are the ones getting ahead at the cost of others. Teachers are not the poor and it's this school board giving themselves a raise much higher than a teacher. You seem mixed up on many fronts.

Property taxes aren't going up. Your property value is going up because this is a desirable place to live.

Property taxes are going up. When I look at my statement from last year there is more money for taxes than last year. Do you also say that the price of eggs also aren't going up just because it's increasing in price due to popularity? How about Disney World? When it goes up in price do you just say that it didn't really go up, it just increased in popularity? Where do people get these types of ideas?

But it's inaccurate to say "my taxes are increasing." No they aren't. The value of your home is increasing, but it's being taxed at the same rate.

If I make more money this year than I did last year, does that mean taxes are increasing? No, it just means I'm making more money so there is more that is being taxed.

Fairfax County is no longer a desirable place to live, ALL of the schools have lost worthy accreditation and people are leaving in droves because of the incompetence from the Board of Supervisors and School Board.

What value are we getting for our taxes when the school system is paying millions of dollars to lawyers to defend them from poor decisions? Hiring "experts" and "consultants" who only make more paperwork and less instruction to our students? Hiring "equity" czars who tell teachers to take the home background and culture into consideration---something that teachers have always done.

How about the BOS who gave themselves a hefty raise? Or the Chair who gets a car and, according to reports, has abused its use?
Spending money on changing names of streets and neighborhoods. How has that improved quality of life?

As for comparing rise in property value to the rise in income--have you even considered what this does to those on fixed income? Sure, the very poor get a break on this, but most retirees on fixed income are being hit pretty hard. You still have to maintain your house and buy food.
You have no clue.

I have very little sympathy for retirees who own and are now struggling to pay for taxes. Clearly they can't afford to live here anymore and the natural pathway is to downsize and move into affordable housing developed specifically for senior citizens. Nobody is requiring them to maintain their house.

"Downsize?" What makes you think these folks are living in large homes? My neighbor is in her 70s, and lives in a small townhouse... which she shares with her two dogs and her disabled daughter. Where is she supposed to move? Her entire support system and community are here, something she has cultivated for decades. Wow.

What kind of an idiot are you? If your tax payments are increasing, your taxes are indeed increasing. If you want to say tax rates aren’t increasing, just say that.

Especially giventhat taxes are based on property values, which may increase at a faster rate than incomes, people will justifiably think you’re nuts if your don’t acknowledge taxes are increasing.

The amount of money that every tax payer pays is increasing at a rate faster than inflation because the property market outpaces inflation. That gives the county increasing money year over year. If gatehouse was leaner, they would be able to put that money towards the building fund, instead they use it to further bloat administration

Would'nt mind higher pay if it meant a competent school board, but unfortunately that is not going to happen, so lets turn it into a voluntary position. Couldn't get a worse crew.

You do r

You’re a jerk who deserves the type of mediocre public school system that FCPS has become.
