With next to no advance notice the School Board is proposing to award themselves 77% pay increases to over $60K at tomorrow night’s meeting.
They’ve clearly turned what was intended to be a part-time job into a full-time job by scheduling meetings at times that discourage people with real jobs from seeking office. But they haven’t done anything that warrants this type of pay increase. It seems obscene. |
| Sounds like FCPS board is as F'ed as MCPS board. LOL. |
|
This is an “action item” for tomorrow’s meeting. When was it a “new business” item that would have given anyone a clue they had this in mind?
This is money that could be spent on teachers going into the pockets of incompetent losers like Karl Frisch. Will he ever stop trying to screw taxpayers? |
| WTF |
| Why are school board members paid at all? In many states, it is a volunteer position. It should not be a paid thing. |
I think they should get some pay, but I’m not sure how much. It’s a lot of time and responsibility for no pay at all. |
They meet a lot and their meetings run long but I don’t see why their should get paid more just so every member can keep weighing in on every random honorary resolution or so people like Laura Jane Cohen and Karl Frisch can blather on in public about their own sexuality. It’s not like they use their time wisely or focus on academics or basic operations. |
| The only current school board members that would seek to benefit from this change would be Rachna, Frisch, Meren, and Anderson. The others are on their way out. Closely watch their votes. Which progressives will vote themselves a big pay raise while having delivered below inflation level raises for teachers? |
|
They all have assistants. And, if you look at the assistants, some are also deeply involved with Fairfax Dems.
Stella had her assistant handling her emails. I understand that to a point, but when it was an email regarding educational policy, it seems like she could have her own signature on it. I even wondered if she had even seen the email. This was long before she ran for the Senate. |

The fact that they are doing this at the last minute with scant advance notice tells you everything. It’s what they know they can get away in a county with too many voters who pay no attention to their shenanigans.
And, yes, the raise won’t kick in until next year so not all would benefit directly, but this is all about people in the same party who travel in the same circles lining each other’s pockets. |
| As a teacher, this hits hard for me after my 3% raise this year. |
|
Wouldn’t it make way more sense to just build in a 3% annual cost of living adjustment? Feel like the public would let that slide.
Or better yet, tie their annual adjustment to what they were able to negotiate for teachers in the county that year. No pay increase in a yearly budget = no pay increase for the school board. The fact that they will be making twice the money that instructional assistants in high needs classrooms make it seriously obscene |
|
They think their job is to spend taxpayer money. But, I'm pretty sure the BOS gave themselves a big raise, as well.
I'm more concerned about the money they waste on lawyers, consultants, and vendors. Funds that do nothing to help teachers and their students. Also, those SB meetings with all their resolutions, etc, are getting out of hand. I don't know if it really matters that they honor a group. It is just politics to them. In fact, it seems to me that every group has been honored except for Christians. |
|
Is this like the Board of Supervisors where they can only call for a raise within 6 months of an election?
How do the stipends compare to other jurisdictions? I’m not going to get unnecessarily annoyed by this without more info. |
Loudoun school board members will get paid slightly over $27K in 2024. These people in Fairfax have no shame. |
