DD applied to MIT but didn’t get accepted. She didn’t apply to Caltech because she didn’t want to go West Coast for college. Thanks for the feedback, I don’t believe she knows what geography she wants to be in after graduating but I think Duke or Brown would give her access to a wide variety of locations separate from the the geographies of the schools themselves! |
I laughed. |
+1 Duke and Brown degrees are very transferrable to essentially anywhere in the country. Maybe some people in the rural Midwestern states who have only heard of Harvard will draw some blanks, but any reasonably-sized city will know what Duke and Brown grads are. Congrats to her! |
Thank you! She’s excited for Duke! |
(In case you’re still on this forum OP) How has your DD liked Duke so far? My DD is also looking at Duke and Penn pretty closely for engineering, she didn’t do ED but will definitely be applying to both RD this year |
Duke if Engineering. Either if History.
If studying Engineering, there almost certainly will not be time to double-major. Many engineering schools require more credits for an Engineering degree than for non-STEM majors. Engineering curricula almost always have rigid course sequencing and more mandatory courses. This will vary by school and by the precise major, but just as an example one school requires 135 CH for AeroE but 120 CH for Non-STEM degrees. |
Brown is not a match for Duke especially for engineering.

Duke. Major in engineering and minor in history. Well done. |
Congratulations to your DD!! Amazing choices in this crazy admission environment! Hope she has a wonderful 4 years at Duke! |
Is PP delusional? |
