I call BS on this. If that happened I'd march my liberal white @ss right over to the school and heads would roll. Again, METAPHORICALLY. I wouldn't actually chop off heads.

?It was a child's perception. I don't know exactly what led them to say that, but I'm not the type to "march right over there" and make "heads roll."

Uh huh. I double dog dare you to get your perceptive ES child to come on here and provide three to five examples of how s/he is learning "white people are bad" every day.

NP. My ES kids have learned that for years. They don't put it that way, but they have learned about how terrible the colonists were and then how bad the early Americans were. Many times in many different lessons in most ES grades.

Well, um, yeah. The reality of colonization is an ugly story, not pumpkin pies and turkey dinners. Violence, disease, death, enslavement.... and I am descended from early colonists. I acknowledge reality but it doesn't change my self perception. Do you think all Germans are bad, are genetically bad, because of the Holocaust? I don't. I haven't met a German who seems to believe that. Yet Germany is pretty direct, aren't they? In educating their population about what happened.

It may be an ugly story, in parts, but it's also an inspiring one with plenty to admire. The left's agenda is to compensate for past sugar-coating by now emphasizing the ugly parts at every turn (all the better to lay the groundwork for the redistribution of private property and "reparations") and denying the good. No surprise that the microaggressions are examples of white "mosquitos" saying the wrong things but nothing about, for example, anti-Semitism.

Very good points.

Same experience.

This. Tell a group that they are the problem enough and they will react, just not in the way that you hope

Did you WATCH the video? Because it is not saying "white people" are doing this. It shows white people, women, gay people, also as recipients.

The only value of a white male to this crowd is if they are LBGTQ or in a wheelchair, or can be portrayed as an aggressor.

Well “rageposting on an anon message board trying to make himself look like a victim” certainly isn’t useful for anyone.

DP. The only "rageposting" going on is from people like you who have probably posted umpteen times, arguing that no one should be offended by this video.
I'm a woman and agree fully with the PP.

I think it's a great way to explain how the cumulative effect of certain well-intentioned comments based on our assumptions about certain groups can harm others. I don't know that it would be helpful for younger students, though.

Good examples might be:

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man."

“Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.”

"In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking."

I think the point of the video is to show that you don’t have to be a blatant racist or jerk to inflict pain on others. For instance, Telling someone with a disability that they are actually smart isn’t the same as blatantly discriminating against that person/or inflicting physical harm. But it still impacts the other person. As a POC, I actually think a lot of liberals engage in these sort of micro-aggressions. I think a lot of education on equity/diversity could be summed up with: examine your own biases and don’t make assumptions about people. I don’t see how the video is dehumanizing any one group bc anyone can be on the receiving end.

The bolded is exactly right. Unfortunately, those liberals refuse to acknowledge this and continue their "soft bigotry of low expectations."

And yes at the end, the POC seem very annoyed by the micro-aggressions and hit the mosquitoes. Is that what you mean by saying the video implies minorities could engage in violence against white people? Because that is not what I got at all from this video. You know what is scary OP? How some conservatives are completely overreacting to CRT and the like. See Florida. I agree that we should focus on academics more than anything. But this fear mongering is scary. And the Federalist is biased AF OP. They are right wing and very much pro-school choice/not fond of public schools. But I am guessing you are already knew that, no?

There was also a flamethrower.

Yes. Do you think the video was saying, literally, take a flame thrower and kill white people? Because I thought it was hyperbole, showing a woman so sick of being bitten by mosquitoes that she felt LIKE taking a flame thrower to all of them buzzing around her. Somehow I was able to distinguish between this cartoon frustration and.... reality.

DP. I agree, however - let's not pretend that liberals wouldn't have blown that flame thrower out of all proportion had the video been directed at them. Absolutely no doubt they would be feigning outrage over the purported "violence" being depicted.

I don't see how it's productive to tell students they are entitled to "feel" like taking a flame thrower or a flyswatter to other people just because they've said microaggressions (and, of course, happen to be white).

There's a certain amount of paternalism involved in thinking some students deserve to be patronized this way, and others should just suck it up and accept that they are now the official bad guys, even at their public schools.

+100
So true. Paternalism and condescension. The left's specialty.

Being offended at that mosquito video is like a man being offended when one points out the fact that most rapists are men.

Oh noes, let me play a tiny violin for your fragile hurt ego when faced with facts.

That this is what you think people are discussing is so telling. Hint: it's not.

You can only make movies like this about white people. I think is just reinforces supremacy by making other races seem weaker and whites more resilient.

White people invented and created 99 percent of everything in modern civilization. Also created the only countries the world flocks to and even breaks into out of desperation to be in a white created environment.

Make a movie about that.

Ugh, 99% of all movies made has been about that.

Not surprisingly, white supremacists are perfectly fine with racism.

But everybody flocks from all over the world to be close to and live in countries full of mosquitoes. It’s like they are gluttons for punishment.

And those immigrants, including those from Africa, miraculously do extremely well here, out-earning native born Americans within a generation. It's amazing that they are able to overcome all of the microaggressions. It's almost like hard work and free will pay off in a free country.

That’s true: Some immigrants, including some immigrants from Africa do well here. It’s amazing what NOT growing up in countries that discriminate against you can do for your well-being. Also, while it might not be typical, I’ve known two types of African immigrants. All came for better opportunities. Some of them are working in menial jobs — so we’ll see how their children do. Others came here with more money than most of us could even dream of for elite graduation education and job opportunities. Both groups have substantial differences from those of us who’ve been dealing with American brands of racism since birth.

It stands out that your only metric for “doing extremely well here” is earnings. Perhaps you should provide information on the micro and macro-aggressions that they’ve experienced instead of assuming that the “pay off” is just fine. While I’m not dismissing the importance of financial success, it’s disingenuous—at most — to assume that that’s the only metric that matters. And even that generalization on your part leaves out quite a bit of meaningful data.

I love how they portray the black character as basically incapable of repeatedly asking, "So where y'all really from?".

I can't tell you the number of times I've had to explain to a black co-worker or even a black person in public that: 1) no, I'm not Chinese and all Asians are not Chinese, 2) I cannot speak Chinese, 3) I do not know Kung Fu, and 4) Thailand is not Taiwan.

But I guess the all-look-same stereotype oesn't count as a microaggression.

Everything is so serious these days. Where is the video on how to respond with humor and strength? There are no responses in these videos.

Not great IRL though.

I agree. I mean whites invented fly swatters, flame throwers and malaria vaccines.

It’s hilarious!!

Change the white head to a purple or orange head and get rid of the swatting part & I will support the video.

Otherwise, it is just county-approved racism against a person with light skin that encourages violence.
