Food hacks to deal with rising food prices/inflation

I was shopping yesterday and needed a pound of chicken breast. I bought a 4.5 pound value package for less than half the price per pound. I used my pound and froze the remaining chicken in 2 containers.

Never, which is why I cannot even respond to the OP. Not sure how anyone on a budget thinks ordering food online is cheaper than shopping in store sales.



+1, Omaha is always overpriced. I might send as a gift but never purchase for myself

Lucky!! What type of food do they make? I would think anything made by an actual chef would be better than what I would bring myself.

I'm. a long time budget shopper and I tend to agree, however, my big challenge has been that I've used the sale/buy ahead strategies for years and the sales are no longer there. Most staples were on a 6 week sale cycle (or sales around certain holidays). So I would always buy butter when it was on sale for the lowest price and get enough to last until the next sale or buy enough baking supplies during the pre-christmas sales to last for 6 months and that strategy is just not working anymore.


This is what I do in a world without sales with inflation/corporate greed driving up food prices: I just buy the good stuff. The organic berries cost the same as conventional, filet mignon is the same price per pound as ground beef. Why pay 6 bucks a pound for pink slime when you can dine on steak? When you start comparing prices, you'll be surprised at how "cheap" the expensive stuff has gotten.

You're a moron. Who do you think decides how much money the government spends and puts into the economy? Who determines the fed rate? Who affects the money supply (M0, M1, M2)? Debt ceiling? Explain why the economy goes to sh- - every time a democrat is in charge. Explain why gas prices skyrocket when a dem is president. When that happens everything gets more expensive. Keep saying that the dems are innocent and looking out for the less fortunate but anyone with a brain and eyes can see what’s really happening.

Because every time the Republican before them leaves a gigantic mess to clean up.

Shifting to healthy vegetarianism (i.e., not eating a lot of dairy/fake meats) is one of the best cost-saving hacks out there. But it's not easy -- I've found this is an entirely different type of meal planning, pantry stocking, etc. It's not something you can just do overnight.

Truthfully we haven't made that many changes- I was a vegetarian for a long time so we don't eat a lot of meat anyway - maybe for dinners 2x per week, but I will splurge for good quality fish too. I do find myself just being more cognascent of waste and trying to use up produce in particular before it goes bad. We have a garden that has been pretty productive this year although we've also sunk a lot of money into it over the years, lol.

We have cut back on eating out at work although some of that kind of happened naturally during the pandemic- only in the office 2 times per week now and it's much easier to get my act together to make lunch 2x per week than 4-5!

This is the reason I haven't bought a big freezer here - the power goes out too often. And falling for the buy 2 get 3 ice cream deal is a guarantee that our power will go out.


We have a battery backup on our deep freezer plus we keep 2 gallons of frozen water inside to help keep the temp down incase the battery backup runs out. We don't know exactly how long the backup will run but we were okay at 2 hours. I'm guessing it would last for around 4 hours. It was $250 on Amazon.
