Our elementary school canceled Halloween

I know the far-right Christian Taliban think Halloween is a satanic holiday and try to cancel it.

All of the blame for this falls squarely on the shoulders of the Christian extremists in this County. 100%.

So you have no problem with literally hundreds of kids missing out instead of 4-6? Weird.

Kids can celebrate Halloween at home. I'd prefer to be inclusive and practice what adults preach vs. having it all just for show. Really, kids don't care if they have a party and cupcakes.

LOL Do you even know any kids?

Yes, and I was the room parent who always ended up doing 99% of the work. Most parents want to complain but they cannot bother sending in food or even showing up.

Is this about you or the kids? Who cares if you did 99% of the work. That's your job as room parent.

I cared when I had to pay for it when rich families like you couldn't be bothered.

Are you too truly that clueless? Its often Hispanic families who opt out.

Who does Halloween at school?
Just have them go trick or treating. The real issue for me is the lack of sunlight.

Sun sets at 6:08 pm on 10/31

When majority of the community is for celebrating Halloween, why do principals hide behind a few irrational people to make this kind of decision? Needless to say, our elementary community is livid. Is there anyway we can change the principal’s mind at this point?

A bunch of families in our cluster decided to have their own Halloween parties and are skipping school that afternoon..

You aren’t entitled to Halloween celebrations in public school. Schools cannot “cancel Halloween,” as it occurs on the evening of October 31. If you want a Halloween celebration, feel free to plan, execute and fund one at your house.

I like you.

And it’s a shame.

Part of the reason our country is so divided is precisely because we no longer strive for a community that celebrates diversity. Instead, we somehow landed on nothingness.

A winter concert showcasing a variety of holiday songs would be a lovely event to build community.

Let me guess. You think Hanukkah is "the Jewish Christmas".

How does this cancel Halloween? Your kid can still go trick or treating.

Another reason among the many why private school is the way to go. My kid gets to celebrate Halloween, Easter and Christmas in the classroom. She doesn't have to take a day off for Jewish holidays. It is beautiful.

So many schools getting rid of Halloween. I have a sophomore & junior and their elementary didn’t have Halloween when they went! You can’t have a party when a good chunk of the population doesn’t celebrate it or have the money for a costume.

+1. Kids are only little once. Let them enjoy the fun parts of childhood.

Anddddddd they are the Christian extremists. That title doesn’t only belong to whites. I was the pp who posted in the early pages. I’m Hispanic. In Spanish there is a nickname for this group and it’s legalistas. It was awful growing up like that and I don’t think the schools should cancel traditional celebrations to cater to extremist groups.

Yeah staying home from school for Jewish holidays is such an imposition on “the fun parts of childhood.” Good thing PP’s daughter doesn’t have to miss school for Jewish holidays. Bless. /s
