Why do so many kids attend public schools out of state?

Op here. I think people are misunderstanding what I meant. I don’t understand why anyone would go to a mediocre public school and pay out of state tuition for a mediocre school. I would pick a better private school out of state vs a mediocre public school.

I got multiple answers. That may have been their best option. The cost of OOS public is still lower than cost of private. The OOS public may be larger and attractive. OOS public may have more majors and options.

I was wondering why one would pick a large public and pay OOS tuition. I didn’t realize some people want to go to a school with 50,000 students.

Since the schools are so large, admissions should also be easier so if the kid was not a top student, most likely would get admission to a school with 50k vs a private university with 5000 students.

That’s not how it works at all.

Many, many students want the "big state school." So many different activities, club and intramural sports, big stadiums for watching the D1 games, tons of student organization, lots of on-campus employment opportunities, etc.

So it sounds like you prefer small colleges. That's fine. But I am sure that you can understand there are many people who would dislike such a small environment, right?

Or sons.

well, I only have daughters

But people should definitely consider what all these new laws that are about to come to pass mean for their sons, as well

That's a you problem. You sound like an authoritarian that won't respect your adult kids
's rights anyway, sucks to be your kid and have a mind of their own which it seems you wish to program...pathetic.

#1 - I am concerned about my daughters' health and what happens in worst case scenario - my worst nightmare is one of my girls having a female organ emergency and being stuck in a state that won't operate. I'm not letting my children die because stupid old white men who don't understand women's bodies made draconian laws that take away their bodily autonomy
#2 - my daughter agrees with this reasoning
#3 - if we're paying, we absolutely get a say

what they do after college is up to them, but I sure as heck hope they don't settle in any state with laws that are dangerous to women

Inventing Anna in the house. She’s “so privileged” she thought only the poors went to such things as “mediocre public colleges” and just can’t relate. Lol.
